Re: ASHP glycol smell
Do you know which glycol they used? For our ASHP I believe they used propylene glycol rather than ethylene glycol that is used on, for axample car radiators. Proppylene glycol is considered safe and used in flavorings, drugs, and cosmetics, and as a direct food additive where as etylene glycol is co...

Re: heat loss calculations
I did a heat loss calculation for our place in the Yorkshire dales when we renovated/extended it came out at slightly over 6kW at -3 outside but someone came out with 8kW and another 10kW! The house is 225m2 faily airtight though not measured and has MVHR, roof is 175mm sips (so 150mm pur) most of t...

Re: HPC
On Sunday, the 1,600 megawatt Olkiluoto 3 nuclear reactor tripped again, the latest in a series of faults and outages that have plagued the new facility and caused the market to reach out for back-up power to fill the gap. I can see this being a big problem for HPC also, when losing 3GW instantaneo...

Re: HPC
I can see that as a real problem yes - although it's two 1.6GW nuclear plants co-located so unlikely that both would trip simultaneously, but can imagine the local grid management will be very complex? Actually does anyone know what size the actual generators are? Surely it can't be one single 1.6G...

Re: Storage Heaters, Tariffs & Control
We have heated our house with storage heaters for 30 years and found them to be a good solution for us, but considering how to run with an cheaper EV tariff. We have "traditionally" wired system, a 5 terminal smart meter that controls the switching of the seperate storage heater fuse boar...

Re: Another Lister generator problem
All diesel in the UK now contains biodiesel which can result in diesel-bug developing if the turnover in the tank is low and left for long periods. This is a common problem wih boats that are left over winter without use. The "bug" that develop can cause blockages and can result in engine ...
