Re: Half of homes need heat pump by 2040

The biggest problem as i see it is small bore pipes particularly if in concrete floors. For most houses i see air/air HP as the ideal solution. Fraction of the capital cost and a fraction to run without the disruption and bigger rads. Also the climate is warming. And the Gov will not support them be...

Re: Providing grid stability and decarbonising the final few percent

An article popped up yesterday on my Newsfeed on Denmarks molten salt storage for excess Solar/wind etc. Seems like a good storage solution? Related article https://interestingengineering.com/energy/denmark-salt-battery-could-power-100000-homes Good perhaps for heat but not leccy "Hyme Energy ...

Re: Providing grid stability and decarbonising the final few percent

What is not mentioned is that overbuilding of PV and wind is probably a good partual solution and a fig of 130% overbuild is often proposed as the ideal amount. Has anyone considered what changes will be needed to the constraint payment mechanism with 130% overbuild? John, Curtailment is not linked...

Re: Providing grid stability and decarbonising the final few percent

Whilst laying it out nicely he is not saying anything new. NESO and Gov/climate change commitee are following that line of thinking already. What is not mentioned is that overbuilding of PV and wind is probably a good partual solution and a fig of 130% overbuild is often proposed as the ideal amount...

Yes its good to see that "duck curve" developing

But alas it is only a moment in time and quite a way to go yet.

Re: Hoymiles problem, or grid voltage too high?

Are we sure the hoymiles should switch off at 253V. Why would it not have a small plus tolerance as they know its going to increase the voltage. If the grid voltage is within spec and then inside the house you are increasing the volts above spec then surely there is only one person to blame. In my i...

Re: Hornsea 4 "Shelved"

Not so sure its been shelved but postponed. Basically the industry is running up against capacity issues and with it price increases. Also i suspect they ran up against a delivery time deadline. They paid a huge penalty to delay but they will be back. Further down the line i can see the time when ga...

PV panels made by robots v gas power plants by humans - no contest.

Re: Cost to build new gas plants...

Firstly the article is US based where RE is having a hard time but willing to accept gas. I am not aware of anyone building a gas plant in the UK ? There will always be a small % of gas required in the form of standby and peaker plants but clearly we already have enough gas plants to cover that. Our...

You would have to think that if Janus can get long haul trucks to work in Australia they have cracked it.
