Re: No Coal but Oil ??

The Nat Grid has no interest in the coal supplies but the coal leccy production may have bid low to get a contract to maintain warm boilers for the Monday demand. However the Nat Grid has to ensure there is enough reseve in case a production unit goes bang. Well if demand is low and there is virtual...

Re: HPC

no doubt someone has picked up on this.

"In January 2024, EDF announced that it estimated that the final cost could rise up to £46 billion in 2024 prices and be delayed by up to three years."

£46B and we still want to build more !

Re: Accelerated grid connections for renewables

Leccy production

March
Wind 31.9%
Solar 4.7 %
Gas 23.7%

April
Wind 34.7%
Solar 6.6%
Gas 16.8%
Nuclear 16.0%

I know Feb wind was more than gas, but did not note the figs.

RE is really looking up now along with big import.

Re: Accelerated grid connections for renewables

Up to now the Grid has taken the worst case scenario for the ability to transmit power ie at max ambient temp and no cooling wind, and at the same time taken the max electricity that can be transmitted/produced. On that basis the cable is rarely if ever transmiiting max practicaly speaking. For a fe...

Re: England could produce 13 times more renewable energy

I oscillate between 50% it can be done and 50% it cannot. I think there are a few unknown parts to the jigsaw. I believe we COULD technically do it with what we know to day but think about what could /might happen in the next 26yrs. 10yrs ago PV and wind was 10X the cost and coal was polluting. If w...

Re: Is Europe's energy crisis over?

We are again Net 100% RE net export and curtailing wind more than gas is producing. Probably not the proper definition.

Re: Please help me with battery options and business case

"little and often" , I take it you mean on and off often as against a little on -low setting for long periods. No HP should be run in a on/of cycling mode. Besides this being bad for the wear and tear it is also inefficient. It is good to run at the low temps perhaps even lower than the 35...

Re: Renewable's overtake gas in the UK supply for last winter

Wind produced more than gas both Feb and March 2024. March Wind 8Twh Gas 6Twh. Cannot find Jan

In 2023 Wind 79 Twh and Gas 86Twh

Gas use as slumped so much in 2024 (after 2023 22% reduction) both here and the EU that i assume we are no longer importing Russian gas.
