Re: external battery enclosure
The battery needs to be very close to the inverter. So moving both to the attic would be the first choice. I’ve seen plenty of installs where the batteries/inverter are housed in an outdoor lean-to enclosure. However the charge rate of the batteries drops when they get too cold so outdoors would re...

Re: Reply to DNO Question?
I've put a call through to them. I will ask if that's ok (6kW,5kW,5kW).

Re: Reply to DNO Question?
They will be looking for an assurance that the phase balance will be maintained (i.e. near-equal export on all three phases) or the split of export from the additional 10kW. My guess is that they would prefer the new 10kW to be split 5kW per phase over the two phases that are not being used for the...

Reply to DNO Question?
I recently submitted the attached schematic for a revised G99 following a new 3-phase connection. DNO has raised the following question: I note on your G99 form that the existing 6kW of PV is installed on 1 phase and the additional 10kW will be spread over three phases. Can I ask for an update SLD t...

Re: New panels and inverter ordered!
Bill Dunster (ZedFactory) has a solar canopy in kit form suitable for DIY installation. My canopy from 2016 has 7 solar panels and 7 clear panels and has been leak-free.

Re: A Good Energy Monitoring System
I see that Openspaceman has a Growatt inverter. What's your experience of it and its monitoring function? I'm in the market now for a 10kW 3-phase hybrid inverter for a system expansion. I already have single-phase SolarEdge inverters (2 x 3kW). They have been trouble-free since 2014 but the monitor...

Re: A Good Energy Monitoring System
I am not confident or competent to follow OGB's footsteps but I agree with his concerns. Is there another way? Maybe a package similar to OGB's method, as a service? But I bought the Solo3 monitoring system from a UK company (GEO based in Cambridge). They unilaterally discontinued supporting the pro...

A Good Energy Monitoring System
Hello, I'm looking for advice on energy monitoring to cover all parts of the system: Generation, Usage, Storage, EV Charging. Many equipment suppliers provide monitoring as part of their service (eg. SolarEdge and Zappi) but maybe monitoring should be a separate service? We need to know what is happ...
