Re: Sentencing thoughts?

Amazed the driver of that car wasn't injured or killed. Looks like the tire completely flattens the roof of the car.

Re: The 100 MWh Club

Okay, so there's a while to go for my 100MWh badge but a happy milestone for me this morning - my first MWh (from this system) :D https://i.postimg.cc/GBLg7xkg/Screenshot-2023-06-06-at-09-02-50.png Really not bad for a bunch of second hand panels thrown around the back garden (okay, and £5k of Victr...

Re: May 2023 Generation

Self consumption is down to 59% but PV contribution to house load is 98%. Unfortunately, the slow response of the Solis at points means I'll never fully eradicate import. I have a Solis inverter and a heatpump in an "all electric house". I keep seeing references to the "slow inverter...

Re: Your view of Fog***r batteries

Haven't actually bought one of their server rack batteries, but they seem decent quality. I probably would consider one if I didn't already have a full complement of storage. They're a pretty recent addition to the lineup I think. Essentially a custom-designed case with 16 EVE cells in it. You could...

Re: Off Grid Solar EV charging

So I guess its these regs: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/regulations-electric-vehicle-smart-charge-points I don't see anything there about permanent installs but the entire thing seems vague and ambiguous, how unsurprising. In particular (cut out the relevant parts): The regulations cover: [...] smart...

Re: Off Grid Solar EV charging

Do you need any permissions to use one of these, in fact are they legal to use in UK? It doesn't look like it'd comply with the post July 2022 regs for EV chargers to be smart. No it doesn't have any smarts. It's not much different from every granny charger though (bit more powerful), and they're s...

Re: Off Grid Solar EV charging

I think the problem is you'd have to match the DC voltage of the car's battery right? And that can be anything up to 800V on the newer platforms. Probably not something you'd want to be messing with. On the whole my view is DIYing an EV charger is probably not the best idea. I'm mostly fine with the...

Re: Idiot's guide to a self build battery

Ouch. That happened through the two inches of foam they're packed in? Must have been a hell of a whack. Personally I'd use the leaking cell(s), I don't think thats much to worry about. It's not even broken the scored lines so there's no pressure there? Probably start with a low C discharge/charge te...

Re: Experimental PV calculator

This is hard on the battery though - around 400 cycles/year. I would like to suggest this is less of a concern than some people think. The LiFePO4 cells are rated for 6000 cycles or so, and even after doing that, they should still operate at 80% of their full capacity. 6000/400 = 15 years. By that ...
