Re: Passive stack chimney ventilation
Once the outgoing air gas been cooled somewhat, its buoyancy, relative to incoming air that's taken on that energy, will be reduced. Instinctively it feels like either the HX performance will be very low or, if it's not, the air temperature differential will be too marginal for the stack effect to d...

Re: (Yet) Another chocolate teapot?
I do at least buy that a 6' widget could generate ~500W in a good coastal location. Quite why that better than putting the materials into a similar sized horizontal axis machine outputting, I'm guessing, 2-5x the power is anyone's guess.

Re: MVHR vent locations. Opinions...
Thanks all. Yep, I'm on board. Supply it is. Regarding efficiency, the theoretical 100% maximum is temp in = temp out - it's a counterflow exchanger. Reality is of course very much not 100% efficient. I chose to do it as was redoing the bathroom so had to put in some ventilation, had cupboard space ...

Re: MVHR vent locations. Opinions...
I agree with all that. You also want the warm air from your WBS to travel as far as possible through your house before it enters an extract vent. Better to let it heat exchange with building infrastructure as much as possible before putting it through the mvhr I guess. It's not like I dry washing i...

Re: MVHR vent locations. Opinions...
Thanks for the input. Yes, I'm sure the fresh input to living spaces is convention for good reason. I'm trying to imagine how air flow/extract will impact the house but, despite spending a good bit of time involved with fluid dynamics once upon a time, I'm quite uncertain. I *think*; As an extract; ...

MVHR vent locations. Opinions...
Just fitted an MVHR unit for the house. Not a well sealed, proper job, a lot of compromises but I decided the benefits of controlled fresh air, with an amount of heat recovery were worth the investment of time and money. I have, 3 bed, 2 bathrooms upstairs, kitchen and lounge downstairs with hall/st...

Re: October generation 2024
Thanks all, reassuring enough. The lower output probably wouldn't be worth doing anything about at this stage, especially if it's been a bit of a bum year anyway

Re: October generation 2024
Could anyone who logs data, for a South facing array, look back through the last year's worth of data for me and compare to other years, Have been averaging 4000-4300kwh. This year as of today was 3875kwh. Hasn't been a noticeable significant drop off until this, the 10th, year. I suspect there must...

Re: Upgrading a FIT/MCS PV+ST system to PV only + battery
Do you need to move/replace the old panels? What is the gain? Space? Location? They'll be a bit more efficient for sure but that seems like it will be hard to recoup. If you're going the export limitation route with DNO anyway, you may as well tessalate the maximum kWp (within reason!) you can on th...

Re: Iboost and buddy or can you go HA
Having messed about with a couple iboosts and wiring in less orthadox ways, unless the load is below, say, 2.5kW, I would wire using only 16A plus rated stuff. Especially the output side. I don't know if it's the flavour of electricity they put out or the constant extended heavy load that can run on...
