Re: Lead acid??
If you're familiar with lead acid limitations and you really want to go lead acid, go for a forklift battery. Like stinsy I don't rate 'leisure' batteries at all: you probably get as good or better cycle life out of a good quality starter battery as you would from a no name leisure battery. The perf...
Re: Sparrows!
Good to know. Couple of questions:- What is the different coloured shape around the holes on some of your boxes? And is it important? They are just some flat stones from my local beach, asthetic only, although in squirell prone areas some sort of guard around the hole is useful to prevent then eati...

Re: RCBO nuisance tripping
Thanks for the reply Marcus. Its a Sunsynk ecco hydrid with batteries and ac coupled, so yes all current via the rdbo. The iffy wiring is just a cheap waterproof external socket kit from Screwfix bolted to the rear of the house and fed via fused spur from the house sockets ring main. The shed/pond/...

Good to know. Couple of questions:- What is the different coloured shape around the holes on some of your boxes? And is it important? If you know: is there a consideration on placement that's important to the sparrows? (e.g. directly under eaves but not under roof (like inside my barn would be). Or ...
Re: Sparrows!
Why not just add some extra ones, given how badly sparrow population has declined extra good nesting sites might help them Frugality partly:- i don't have time to make another, and if they're not being used where they are there's no point in leaving them there. But also, like AEM, I'm not convinced...

Re: RCBO nuisance tripping
Gents, after a bit of a sanity check before i dig out my toolbox. My Synsynk AC system has been tripping its RCBO a few times of late and cutting the AC to the invertor, three times this morning after rain showers, happens generally on wet days. I've been doing a bit of research/Watching excitable ...
Re: Sparrows!
When I got planning to build a house I was required to submit a plan for the sparrows nesting in the ends of the dilapidated static caravan before I could proceed. The plan was basically putting up nest boxes to replace the static. I build a triple nest box - probably the same design as you have - a...

Re: affordable grid-tie wind?
Speaking from the smug position of having hydro, I can certainly support your view on the value of having something other than solar in midwinter: just having enough to cover background loads overnight makes a huge difference. I can't really advise on which wind turbines are good for grid tie, and e...

Re: Battery-inverter cables upgrade
I've used the 3 core for the AC runs and its nice and flexible and a good price, so thought the 35/50mm single core would be suitable for the DC runs too? Its from I think, a reputable supplier, so the cable should be the spec as advertised, decent price and easy to work with? I was thinking why no...

Re: Solar PV advice
Iirc you're using a 12kw inverter? That's 250A going on 300A when the battery is low. Personally, I'd avoid daisy chaining batteries at that current anyway. I'd run both batteries direct to the inverter if at all possible, especially if the cables are only 35mm2. If you have to combine on an externa...
