Re: Northern Lights
Yes, late evening friday in west wales there was a very distinct red area right overhead and streching into the west, with with pale-ish looking shafts of light to the north. It was a bit hazy with only a few stars showing, so it was hard to tell if some of the pale bits were cloud or glow - except ...

Re: immersun repair -no.3
And are these faults all caused by excessive hours in diversion mode? Can you add heat sinks to heat sinks ( bolt on)to give more capacity, or is it easier to rig up fans as others have done? difficult to say. The one here was closed in a cupboard along with a 3Kw inverter, so maybe high temperatur...

Re: immersun repair -no.3
Ah, yes, the MK1. Actually looks like a very similar failure to this one (triac, current sensor & opto I'm guessing, but haven't investigated yet).
Luckily U5 is still readable on this one even though one of it's legs has gone: ACS712T 20A current sensor.

Re: immersun repair -no.3
Who knows?
Until the OP comes back with a 'yes it looks like that pic' or 'no no it looks like this' we're just guessing; there are too many different versions of the immersun to know without a pic.

Re: immersun repair -no.3
Found it!
I was foxed by the fact that every other U was a semiconductor , but U2 is a relay (DPDT 5v coil 16A)

Re: immersun repair -no.3
If you search for immersun, there was an immersun repair 2 which listed several parts, but the U1 (and U2 i think) were gate drivers with a lot more than 6 legs, and the 6 leg devices were Q-numbered dual fets (the part no.s were listed in that thread. But thinking about it my immersun repairs were ...

Re: Is Europe's energy crisis over?
I noticed that ccgt seems to go lower during the day and not overnight, over the last several days - i was wondering if that was due to some advantage of pv power to provide stability? Or simply that they're experimenting during the day when everyone is on hand to keep things under control?

Re: When they go wrong
A wind turbine (one of three 1.3MW) very near me caught fire back in January:- https://www.cambrian-news.co.uk/news/999/wind-turbine-catches-fire-in-teifi-valley-663120 But it was quite an old one. This article says a 25yr lease was arranged in 1995 and it started producing in 2002 - which seems lik...

Re: 36V brushless motor, any use?
If it's a brushless d.c. motor then it probably has 3 large wires and outputs 3phase a.c., so put the voltmeter on a c. And connect to any two wires. You may find that it needs to go unreasonably fast (for a wind turbine) to produce a usefull voltage, but that depends on what voltage you can make us...
