Re: ASHP with WiFi TRVs

I was under the impression that you need maximum flow rate and pretty much whole house heating to make an ashp work efficency.

If you don't have the water flow in the heating system the ashp is likely to be short cycling.

Re: Iron air battery

If you were using the stored energy during the day, and recharging at night would the 'horrific' self discharging rate be that much of an issue in reality?

I would think overall charge discharge efficency over 24 hours would be more relevant when cost be taken into account

Re: MVHR, PIV or just a bathroom fan?

Just throwing in a curved ball here. Dehumidifier.... We have one in our landing and leave the bathroom door open. It work well and pick up a lot of water and also heats the rooms a little bit. I always intended to install it in attic and duct the air outlet back to bathroom. Never got around to it ...

Re: 3D printing filament from plastic bottles

Seen a few of these machines on YouTube. I wondered if the are actually worth it... 20g of filament is not a lot. If it could be easily joined with a quality joint so it is seamless to make say 0.5kg. Then it might be worth it. 20g of filament costs between 10-20 pence depending of the quality of ch...

Re: How clever?

I often wonder if there should be some sort of testing for kids for IQ and aplitude. Some people are good at learning from books, some from doing, etc. There are plenty out their whose skills and potential are never realised and I would think society is worse off for it. I remember doing so sessions...

Re: This doesn't surprise me . . .

I really don't know what the answer is to this problem. My gut feel is those on benefits should receive the most help. But even households earning £30k could be in dire need of help. Is the tax cuts aimed at getting those more well off to spend this money in the economy? Or is it smoke and mirrors.....

Re: 100 billion to subserdise energy bills over two years

Just realised that for that money 50% of homes in the UK could have a 8-10 kWh battery storage system installed. That would reduce their electric bills by 2/3rds. It would also reduce peak demand on grid which should reduce costs to generate electric. As gas is the biggest cost, maybe the only answe...

100 billion to subserdise energy bills over two years

:o  Heard this on the news yesterday. Basically if the government was to cap the domestic energy bills from October's energy price cap it would cost the tax payer 100 billion over the next 2 years. To put that on context we spent around 65 billion on furlough... How much renewable generation ...

Re: E Bikes

We bought a ebike brand on amazon called 'samebike' around 2 years ago for around £800. It was a good price for a reasonable ebike at the time. Real world range is around 20-30 miles and it will do around 20mph just.. but I'm large and heavy.. I basically saw a guys you tube channel about it from Ir...
