Re: Replacement gas fired power stations
I remember reading or hearing somewhere about the grid needs heavy spinning gas turbines to take up the fluctuations with wind and solar. Appearently battery storage etc can't take up the slack that rapidly - I don't think it was from anyone with a vested interest ...

Re: Shower waste water heat recovery
Years ago I thought of this to find someone who actually did it - He has a few other videos on the same theme.

Re: Plans for solar and battries
@marshman You've made me really think now, I've even downloaded the PDF's for the Solis. It looks fairly easy integrate into Node-red as well - I do like logging graphs. EV Puzzle has an interesting video on a Solis and others. I looked at optimisers but thought micro inverters would be better but n...

Re: Plans for solar and battries
@marchman It looks like I need to do a lot more research, good points on the inverter. I just wanted better quality and possibly a better warranty. Same for the batteries, BYD appear to quite good make a lot better than similar looking packs I've heard about.

Re: Plans for solar and battries
Will you battery bank etc be able to supply the 8.5kW shower? I Assume not, but the Victron inverter will do PowerAssist 5kW from the inverter and 5kW from the grid when needed, that's one of the reasons I like Victron. Our normal usage never really goes above ~3.5kW with short peaks to ~3.7kW cook...

Re: Plans for solar and battries
Thanks for the great input. The 'multi' would be an external compressor with 5 inputs/outputs to the wall boxes. Heat pump You can have the either 10 pipes from the evaporator or a loft mounted manifold with the normal suction and pressure lines to the evaporator. I was told the existing radiators a...

Plans for solar and battries
I think this post fits in here. With all the energy price rises I’m looking at changes, so here goes with the new to me forum. I have ideas for our future power, heating and transportation and would appreciate comments. We use about 600-700 L of oil and 2100 kWh of electricity PA. I already use Node...
