Re: Renovating an old farmhouse

I Coverig these type of walls with plastic (e.g. polyurethane insulation boards could make things fine in the short term but lead to bigger problems long term. I believe there was some discussions about this sort of thing on the old forum which is once again accessable - might be worth reading up a...

Re: Renovating an old farmhouse

Oh wow lots of chat on this I am no good at multiple quotes but a few answers. Also I'm dyslexic so I will apologise in advance for poor spelling and punctuation. The water table is basically ground level for months on end in a winter like this last one. I installed French drains outside on 3 sides ...

Re: Renovating an old farmhouse

We had to have Block and Beam floor and air vents all around or a sump with a fan to keep the council happy, and we're we're well clear of the granite. We had to install a radon sump in the barn not that anyone then tested to see if we needed to use it. I don't think we are doing any work where BC ...

Re: Renovating an old farmhouse

Hi from 3 miles north of the moor. Have you room for a Ground Source pump especially if you're over granite, it will be a consistent heat input and may even be higher than air temp most of the year? Afterthought: We have a neighbour who recently built a bungalow on Dad's farm and he went Ground Sou...

Renovating an old farmhouse

Hi all. Back in the day on the other place I shared our conversion of an old barn into our home. It's been great but circumstances have changed and it looks like we will be moving into the main farmhouse. I have made improvements to it over the years to help keep my dad warm but it's still in quite ...

Re: Plug in energy timer

You could consider those wifi-enabled "smart plugs" that you can get in many places - all controlled by an App on your phone - plug the device you want to control into a smart plug and then set the schedule on the App? I think some even work with Alexa/Siri/Google voice control I will loo...

Plug in energy timer

Afternoon all

As of 1200 today we are on a flexible tariff.

We are starting with Agile and going to just going to play it by ear. I would like to run our dehumidifier more than we have been doing and want a plug-in timer to avoid it running during peak times. Any recommends?

Thanks

Re: What tariff?

To the OP, could you. It do anything to automate the heat pump? Shelly devices/switchbot’s? I had made an embarrassing discovery today........It can be programmed! I found the manual which has not been looked at for years. It has a setback timer for variable tariffs so it's going to make things muc...

Re: What tariff?

Thanks all for the input. I have signed up for Agile but we will see how it goes as changing tariffs seems pretty easy with Octopus. If I install batteries I can see IOG is a no-brainer but the low-tech heat pump with no buffer will almost always run outside the cheap rate period and it uses as much...

Re: What tariff?

Thank you both. I can most definitely charge the car at the cheap rate but will struggle to make the GSHP do the majority of its work in that time. It's so hard to work out how much paying extra for more than half our use is offset but the major savings on the car charging I was originally looking a...
