Solar with Auto Start Genny
I have a solar array which is wired so that when we lose mains the solar and now batteries are shut down. I am thinking of adding some more 'cheap' panels and inverter to a shed roof but they will be 200 mts from the main distribution for the site. So my question is "how would the new solar pan...

Re: Hello from South Yorkshire
Welcome to the forum.
We fitted Solar in 2011 and then retrofitted AC coupled batteries in 2022, best move we've made. The cost of batteries is going back down a bit now and with the import unit price the pay-back time is fairly short.

Re: New Octopus rates for April
I'm on Flexible E7 with Octopus and they seem to be offering me a 12 month fix at the same rate as my April rate, I'm going to stay on flexible and see what happens. There's bound to be an early exit fee, I can't it find yet, there are some people who will fall for it and then complain bitterly lat...

Re: What tariff?
We have an old,2011, solar set up with very good FIT, we added 10.5 Kw of batteries and then expanded to 15.5. We don't currently have an EV so we're stuck on Economy 7 as the best tariff. During this winter we've been using approx 10 kwh per day to charge the batteries overnight and run the house a...

Re: Kerosene (Heating Oil) in a tractor?
At current Kerosene prices, 72p to 80p down here in the SW, I'd be looking for a willing buyer with a suitable pump and empty oil drums. The loss on the oil will probably be less than a tractor engine repair.

Re: FiT 24/25
We look on the bright side. Our panels and inverter cost us £15,000, we needed a new inverter at 9 years, we've installed 15 kw of batteries and after the last FIT payment we are £800 in profit and that's without allowing for the 'free' electricity we've used. Currently we charge to a level, dependi...

Re: FiT 24/25
It's a gamble here, we installed ours in 2011 so we have 14 years left of FIT BUT we are both 73 years old. I don't which will hit us first, I hope it's the FIT end!!
