Re: Octopus Tariffs

Many thanks all, particularly Stinsy. This has already grown legs as I thought it might! For now thinking about the ASHP house, where I actually live: In general I don't currently have much scope for time-shifting demand yet (only thermal mass of the house and it's big and drafty so I fear HP will n...

Octopus Tariffs

Hey folks. Unashamadely trying to pick your brains here so I don't have to trawl too much myself. I'm looking to change supplier for two properties. If you've already done the research for similar situations and narrowed down to 1 or 2 tariffs please let me know. Doesn't need to be octopus but I'm k...

Re: Can a Simple Brick Be the Next Great Battery?

World will need way more thermal storage, in kWh terms anyway. Luckily it already has lots (hot water tanks, thermal mass of building etc) and for new stuff it’s much cheaper to build and maintain thermal storage than electric storage. Still needs to be a massive priority though. (I’ll be asking var...

Re: Use for damp plasterboard?

Many thanks all. Yes, it does look like recycling is the answer. Good to know that the local recycling centre will take them.

I'll certainly keep some of the less bad bits for filling in holes, etc, but not worth putting on freecycle I think.

Use for damp plasterboard?

Annoyingly all the spare plasterboard from our building project got left outside by the contractor so it's unusable as plasterboard. Any thoughts on what it might be good for? I'm thinking it might work as a binder mixed with stone to fill in pot holes? Or could be chopped up and added to compost he...

(Not quite as happy as that though, if I’m honest. Auto smiley converter thing is a bit over enthusiastic!)

Re: Samsung HP any good?

Thanks Fintray. So I'm guessing you did some research and concluded that Samsung is a decent brand..?

Thanks for cost indication. I'm pleased to be using an independent plumber. Big company costs seem to be inflated because of the grants available. (Which it's not clear we'll get.)

Re: Samsung HP any good?

Btw it's the new 'high temp' version with R290 (propane I think) as the refrigerant. Not sure if that actually makes much difference..

Samsung HP any good?

Hey folks, I'm having to accelerate plans to replace oil boiler with ASHP as the boiler has given up the ghost. Plumber (who I broadly trust as he installed some Nav evacuated tubes 15 years ago so he's not new to clean energy) is suggesting Samsung ASHP. It's not a brand I associate with HPs. Are t...
