Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

That is a good chunk of PV. If you (you may already have) reduce the daily power requirements of the building you might be surprised at how far into the shoulder months you can stay off gridish. Congratulations again! [/quote] Our background overnight load is in the region 100-120 Watts, to get his ...

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

OP Reporting back (again)
My third PV system (roof mounted DC coupled) is now installed, wired up and will get turned on tomorrow.
This gives us a total of 8.74 KW of PV and ought to help extend the months when we are essentially off-grid.

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

As you will see my rainwater harvesting IBCs will be living under the panels, I will be cladding the timber frame and then growing flowering shrubs up the ends in order to make it a little less hideous...

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

OP back to update again. The first extension to my system is now live. I have an old 3.68 KW system on the roof and have now commisioned my home made ground mount which has another 3.68 KW system mounted at 60 degrees in order to maximise solar gain. In another few months another 1.38KW is going up ...

PV Panels - to Earth or not to Earth

Hi, I am in the process of installing my lovely new panels to my DIY ground mount. The panels are mounted onto an Aluminium rail system which in turn is fitted to a substantial timber frame - my next step is to connect them up. The panel manufacturer has left holes in the back of the panels for eart...

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

This is the OP reporting back again. I have ordered 11 x 460W PV panels which will be connected via two MPPTs into the battery set up. 3 will be mounted on the roof in the remaining space, the other 8 will go on a home made ground mount at around 70 degrees in order to maximise winter productivity. ...

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

Just for clarification, I have a 5000VA Multiplus II and a grid tied 3.68KW PV system, I intend to add about 5 KW of panels to the system via MPPTs entirely on the DC side direct into the batteries. Is this OK ? I hope so! I am just about to do the same (but only 3.2kW in my case). But IIRC the Mul...

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice.

The Victron Factor 1.0 rule applies the the power of a PV inverter connected to the AC output of the Victron inverter. You can connect as many PV panels as you want to your PV inverter provided you don't exceed the max O/C voltage, but the output power of the PV inverter must be no more than the po...

Re: Newboy looking for a little advice - An UPDATE

Hi, I am the OP on this thread and I have returned to report on my action.. I installed a Victron Multiplus II 5000 VA with 4 x Pylontec Uc3000 batteries giving 14kWHr of storage. With considerable support from the supplier we comissioned it yesterday as a whole-house UPS type ESS. So far, so good. ...

Air to Air Heat Pump

Hi, Does the forum have any experience of Air to AIr heat pumps ? I could do with a small unit to heat our living room/hallway, it would only need to be around 2-3KW output and would run overnight on E7 or during the day powered by PV and the proposed new batteries. I would expect that it is only ne...
