It's an old project with a troubled history. Was granted a CfD in Allocation Round 1 back in 2015 with a targeted commissioning date of 2019. Delays to construction starting then hit by supply chain issues and covid-19.

One point I picked up on was that having the Crown Estate put money in (from surplus which would otherwise go to the exchequer) it doesn't count as government / public spending! I have no problem at all with public spending, especially for investment, but if this means that we can invest but avoid ...

How is this different to the offshore wind farms that have all already been built and the ones that are in planning - they're all based on land made available by the Crown Estate as well? Crikey - I had a look on Wikipedia to see if there was an article about all the gas pipelines coming into Europe. And yes there is. Given that the majority of the generation is North and the bulk of the load is based in the South would a shallow submarine cable or two laid along the coastal waters be a cheaper easier solution to transmission costs compared with a land based solution ? Full dashboard only works on desktop. Includes estimates of embedded wind and solar so tends to report a higher figure than sites that don't. Doesn't handle exports clearly though.
