It's an old project with a troubled history. Was granted a CfD in Allocation Round 1 back in 2015 with a targeted commissioning date of 2019. Delays to construction starting then hit by supply chain issues and covid-19.

One point I picked up on was that having the Crown Estate put money in (from surplus which would otherwise go to the exchequer) it doesn't count as government / public spending! I have no problem at all with public spending, especially for investment, but if this means that we can invest but avoid ...

Given that the majority of the generation is North and the bulk of the load is based in the South would a shallow submarine cable or two laid along the coastal waters be a cheaper easier solution to transmission costs compared with a land based solution ?
