Re: Wind turbine that works.
So my dream of a 1kW turbine ticking over nicely in the Welsh breeze, topping up the batteries is just that, a dream?? 😭😭 For many years it was a dream of mine! During which I did some research. I agree with many of the things said but not all. Here in wales permitted development will allows turbin...

Re: High altitude hydro
We have a ram pump here, built out of 3/4” plumbing parts, 6m head to pump, 35m head to storage tanks, but I only run it in the winter now when there isn’t surplus electricity. Amazing though the ram pump is at less than 85% efficient we can’t afford that much water going downstream when it’s dry in...

Re: Hi From Scotland
+1 for west facing array, simple install unlike other options that would be better as more DIY upgrades, west facing arrays also have the efficiency advantage of producing well at the time when the average house is using more power. Adding more W & SW panels helped us not to drain our batteries ...

Nowty wrote; “3.5kW in SW wales would be around 3,500 kWh but your sig says various orientations which suggests less than ideal so I will guess 3,000 kWh.” Not bad, & perhaps we’ll achieve closer in 2023, as an Ash tree causing significant winter shading of one array & having some impact on ...

Re: An introduction from SW Wales
Nowty wrote; ‘@Ph. any idea how many kWh your wind turbine generates in an average year ? The problem with estimating WT's is they are extremely variable depending on location’ My WT generates a modest 750-800kWh/yr, but as ~2/3 of that is Oct-Mar it makes a significant difference. What do you estim...

An introduction from SW Wales
Hi all Mr Gus wrote; Welcome PH, if you are planning to stop here awhile then Nowty will be itching to add your power generation potential to the cumulative list. :) Yes I’m expecting this as I’ve been lurking on this forum since early lockdown, so I know you even if I’m new to you. I also lurked on...

Re: Most efficient power for charging EV
My approximate findings agree that car charging at the lowest rates is inefficient, but quite quickly improve. I get about 70% @1.7kW, & 80% @2.1kW with our variable rate granny charger, but if I want to use mostly surplus & not drain the house battery too much I sometimes have to put up wit...
