Re: EVs banned from Liverpool hospital parking
The ban isn't particularly rational, taken in isolation. However, if the fire service have advised the building managers that the sprinkler system should be upgraded and there is alternative parking available it's perfectly reasonable for them to prohibit EVs in that car park. The building managers ...

Re: EVs banned from Liverpool hospital parking
And if you read a bit further into the article you find "In a statement issued to the BBC, Alder Hey hospital said following advice from Merseyside Fire and Rescue it had "temporarily restricted the parking of electric vehicles in one of our smaller car parks while we upgrade its fire spri...

Re: New standard bans solar batteries in lofts
I don't think that the fire risk from LiFePO4 batteries is very high. They seem to produce a lot of fumes when they go wrong (which is rarely) rather than flame. If they've been installed in the loft there's no point in moving them now. LiFePO4 batteries don't get warm at the sort of charge/discharg...

Re: New standard bans solar batteries in lofts
Very sensible.
It's always seemed dodgy to me to install a large, heavy energy source in an area with poor accessibility and large temperature swings.
After much thought I decided to install mine outside; it minimises the (not particularly high) fire risk and was vastly easier to install.

Re: Battery or thermal storage for HP timeshifting
Ok, if a 3 - 4000l thermal store is viable then in principle it could work, although there can be an additional issue if the thermal store and the heating circuit and the hp are hydraulically separate: if you're going through heat exchangers from hp >> ts >> heating circuits you're going to take an...

Re: Electrification proceeding / progressing...
Good news, useful background for the unconvinced. But will people on ordinary tariffs be worse off because the price of electricity per unit is so much higher than gas, even though there should be minimal wastage from the induction hob? A Induction is 80-90% efficient, gas 30-60% efficient so there...

Re: Voltage delta?
I don't think it really matters much. The high current (which will be limited by the cable/connector resistance) will only last a very short time. Andy from the off grid garage has done a video on this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meLDpYT65yo If your really worried use a 0.1 ohm resistor which w...

Re: Samsung HP any good?
Graham Hendra, who seems to be a heat pump guru, likes them. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/heat-pump-old-house-works-shocker-i-didnt-change-rads-graham-hendra?trk=portfolio_article-card_title describes how he put a 10 year old Samsung in an old house. He mentions them positively in other posts on l...

Bonded polystyrene beads seems to be the most recommended form of CWI. However, it does need to be properly installed, as all systems do.

Re: Hotter heat pumps
Worth ensuring the most current tech is installed in this developing market? Would not be happy to have a new install and its 20degC behind the leaders. Due diligence required. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67511954 High temperature heat pumps are largely a marketing exercise to try to convin...
