Re: Outgoing Octopus

Power is really dropping off now with high cloud, 14hrs or so of discharge till I regain decent solar power again. My 3kW export plus the house its a 3.5kW power drain x 14hrs = 49kWh. :geek: Battery is going to be low low low low low by tomorrow morning. :? https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: Balcony solar PV

Strangely, after going absolutely radge at me in May for daring to buy a couple of panels for the back deck while she was in Scotland. I'm pretty damn sure we discussed and agreed it but who knows? SWMBO has in this trip become massively onside with the idea. Hopefully get them fitted soon without e...

Re: Outgoing Octopus

We had some heavy cloud around midday but that was expected, some high cloud coming later but looks thin on the satellite images so I'm quite bullish in keeping 3kW+ solar generation till around 7pm. Batteries back to around 97% now so ramping up the export to 6kW to keep the DC charge controllers ...

Re: Outgoing Octopus

We have managed at absolutely no cost to ourselves to export over 10kWhs today. Yes it would be great to be paid for today but strangely I'm not bothered. It feels good to be doing a clean beneficial thing. I wonder how far the electrons got and what they powered in my area? https://i.postimg.cc/6y5...

Re: Outgoing Octopus

Is the aim here a system test/stretch and 72×3×15p less any overnight costs? There will be no overnight costs, this is to see if I can export for 3 days (and nights) at 3kW without interruption or any grid support and still power my house. I could make more money by exporting at higher export rates...

Re: Balcony solar PV

On one of my paragliding trips abroad but around the time just post 911, I got pulled up in an airport on having a variometer (measures altitude and rate of climb), a GPS and a radio transceiver. They had a fit but we had a compromise, I could keep the GPS but the Variometer and the radio transceiv...

Re: Balcony solar PV

They took (at security) the daft wee mc4 plastic spanner but crucially my 10mm/11mm open ended spanner. Hacked off at that, like losing a friend! What was the reason ?, did they think you were planning on dismantling the aircraft mid air. Wasn’t in hand luggage was it? Yeah but it's a spanne...

Re: Being a microgeneration site for the grid

First distance test of Hybrid inverter for discharging. I am impressed that the SOC isn't dropping. The Victron system on the DC side is balancing outflow of power nicely. Thats the rub with DC coupled charging and forced AC coupled discharging, your not even losing any battery cycles. It...

Re: Outgoing Octopus

First morning in the 72 hour continuous exportathon at my stretch target of 3kW min export. Woke up early to find total cloud cover. Not a good start but the cloud has now cleared and the battery is now net charging on the solar. I used about 50% of the battery overnight since ...

Re: Balcony solar PV

Airport security is very strange, but sadly very important. Many years ago, before 9-11 and all that paranoia, we went on an extended camping trip to Turkey, I had a stove that ran on unleaded petrol and a half litre storage bottle for extra fuel. They let me board with the stove containing about a...
