Hallo Ivan , good to see you, we still have sixty of your toobs working hard on the roof, 16 years and counting of hot water. Shame the old Ivan-tron empire imploded after you left, still onwards and upwards

Re: underfloor heating under floorboards - any ideas on the numbers?
UFH with a suspended floor basically comes down to one run up and down the room between each joist which should give a decent output provided you can fix and draughtproof the insulation to a good standard between the joists. Tackling that from underneath is almost impossible IMO, how would you cross...

Re: Advice sought for my solar mount foundations
We've built loads of timber framed garden buildings, the majority of them avoid PP if they have a flat roof that is less than 2.5M high if within 2m of the boundary, check your council website but it is almost certainly permitted development if less than 20% the garden area. Building control wont be...

Re: Another Lister generator problem
I bet you're right Mike about crud in the injector. The mist coming from the exhaust would suggest fuel is getting pumped in to the cylinder but I bet the spray pattern is all mucked up and it wont fire. I had a big old Perkins diesel which was a terror for doing just that, the teeniest bit of grit ...

Re: Possibly a bonkers idea - cavity wall insulation
Forgive me for the silly question, but why start dismantling the wall from the bottom? I did something similar a while back on a smaller scale to be fair and we took it all down from the top, no propping needed. I take it your house is standard construction, IE the inner leaf is the load bearing ele...

Blimey that brings back memories, I see the disconnected hep sleeve standing at the ready, does that mean your builder is paddling around in a trench full of sewage?? It always seems very daunting at the start but it will all be worthwhile in the end. Keep the piccys coming and good luck.

A brand new coal burner just finished after a 15 year build https://i.postimg.cc/RWfSq17t/IMG-9965.jpg I wonder if a case could be made for some small scall UK mining for these beasts as well as chemical industry feed stock? I think at the Bluebell railway the talk is of importing coal from China w...

Re: Octopus ASHP Quotation Received
I never went down the ASHP install route despite being a heat engineer for 35 years. One reason was that forcing householders to ditch the boiler to qualify for the grant seems just nuts to me, is that still the case? I never understood the logic of not having a boiler sa a back up for the coldest f...
