Michael Barnard's a bit uncomfortably strident in his arguments for me, but he at least tries to use statistics where possible. He estimates about 40%

Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
Methinks you're rude, and struggle with logic.
I didn't say shipping doesn't need to decarbonise. It does, and needs to urgently.
I just pointed out that the shift to renewables and EVs will help.

Re: Agreement on shipping emissions
I'm sure you've all heard the argument that demand for shipping will reduce drastically anyway as we switch to renewables and EVs.
No need for oil, coal or LNG tankers, which collectively make up a large proportion of total shipping.

Re: Solar record?
Interestingly, solar has already nearly achieved the average from last year (currently 1.5GW average vs. 1.51GW last year).
With a couple more months until the longest day, unless weather is particularly poor we should achieve a decent year on year increase.

Re: Solar record?
The figures are as per Countrypaul's comment. Realise some installed solar will show up as reduced demand.
Nowty's post reinforces the point that installed capacity growth has been glacial in recent years.

Re: Solar record?
If you look at average annual solar generation, growth of the last several years has been depressingly, and surprisingly, slow. Figures from iamkate: 2015: 0.96GW 2016: 1.09 2017: 1.18 2018: 1.31 2019: 1.33 2020: 1.37 2021: 1.28 2022: 1.40 2023: 1.39 2024: 1.51 i.e. only just over 50% growth in last...

Re: Could you run an electric combi boiler off a big battery for hot water?
I note the OP ran an almost identical thread less than a month ago, https://camelot-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2889 That thread was from a year ago :D I thought of just bumping up, but actually I realised I'd like to restrict the question a bit to just the hot water practicality. T...

Could you run an electric combi boiler off a big battery for hot water?
Say 15kW or, even better, 20kW. I'd like to replace my gas combi with a heat pump for space heating. Rather than find space and plumbing for a hot water cylinder, I wonder if I could just use a big (say 45kWh) battery, charged off peak, to run an electric combi boiler. Could that work? Apart from ne...

Re: Tesla's "cheaper car" ?
Which, if the range is unchanged, would make for a hell of an EV.
