Still, 2GW is pretty good.
This year may see wind outstrip gas as single largest source of electricity. And renewables as a whole, which pipped fossil fuel generation for the first time last year, might extend that lead markedly.
Exciting times. Must get that heat pump installed...

Re: 117GW of wind installed in 2023
How much capacity was added in the UK last year? I know we're yet to enter the low wind part of the year, but wind power is averaging nearly 12GW so far compared to 9GW for the full year last year. UK grid intensity is down to 130g/kWh compared to 152 for the whole year last year. That's pretty damn...

Re: California 30 day RE record.
I think any tech, including batteries, can be long duration. It's just that the economics are much poorer due to much lower cycling frequencies, so we won't tend to see it until rapid cycling storage needs are satisfied.

Re: Volvo's last ever diesel car
Imagine what it will do to oil demand when a country the size of China gets to a high penetration of new car sales being electrified imminently... Peak consumption really can't be more than a few years off, and it will be interesting to see what happens when the sustained downtrend begins.

Re: "Carbon offsetting" stinks...
Thing is, contributing to building an industrial solar PV farm in oil burning Nigeria or a wind farm in coal burning Poland has a far bigger environmental bang for your buck than contributing to a wind turbine in gas burning, frequently constrained UK. If, and it's a big if, a robust regulatory regi...

Re: GE scraps 18MW wind turbine
It's interesting. There must be economies of scale in producing a lot of one size of turbine, rather than every other year upgrading to a larger size. But of course, bigger means fewer, which means cheaper until diseconomies prevail. Recent reports of techical issues may suggest that at least a bit ...
