Re: Building an EV more efficient than walking

Pity that it is totally illegal on UK roads, bridleways etc. Too high a max speed. Too much power.

Re: Insulating Timber Garage

I love that older tech can still get it done. 👏 Agreed. I have a Sunnyboy 2500 installed in March 2010. 14 years old and still going strong. Powered by 2.1kWp Sanyo/Panasonic panels. Now hooked up to 10kWh of Pylontechs for a month and I am fast learning how to tweak the Solis inverter to optimiser...

Re: How do I progress? Inverters Batteries G99

Diverters. Yep, but I will need to get it fitted, so the cost doubles I guess. :?: If you can wire a plug, you can fit a diverter. Keep the spare cash for batteries. :) Agree. I did it. Was a bit more complicated for me as I had a bottom and mid height immersion heater in my 250l Megaflow on and in...

Re: How do I progress? Inverters Batteries G99

I have 9kw of Aiko panels in mind for the roof What size inverter will I need?, 6-8kw? If the DNO wont let me export the full 7.6 watts I think I can apply for on G99, do I change down the inverter to a smaller one or limit the export to the guaranteed 3.6 then apply again later? What brands would ...

Re: Mix & match PV panels OK? Installers Surrey?

If you are considering adding batteries, it would be best to get a hybrid inverter now to which the batteries can be added. I was an early adopter of solar panels and installed mine just as the generous FIT started. I remember that my preferred installer gave me two quotes one for more efficient San...

Re: Mix & match PV panels OK? Installers Surrey?

It may well be that the installers know that the DNO is likely to reject any request for a system which could export more than 3.68kW. Even without batteries, you can oversize the nominal output by around 10-20% of the inverter rating. Are you considering batteries as well? That way, surplus can go ...

Re: Idiot's guide to a self build battery

I note that the cable craft busbar is described as an Earth busbar. Presumably, earth busbars will generally carry zero or minimal current until something goes belly up. Then it is hopefully a short time before a breaker of fuse trips. Thus an earth busbar could have a higher rating than a busbar ca...

Re: Hornsea offshore to have a battery pack

I suspect in the background batts allow the wind farm to quote for a greater supply and reduce curtailment. Wind that would have and maybe still is? curtailed and therefore at zero cost can be fed into the grid at max price. Agreed, but it also assumes that the curtailment is not due to the link fr...

If they are the sort of people who holiday in Cornwall (not solely but for some of their holidays), it would not surprise me if they were put off an EV because of the poor charging infrastructure in the west country, particularly in the holiday season. Fancy having to queue up with all the Porsche T...
