Re: Average Electricity Consumption
Annual consumption is a moving target. In 2008, it was around 4,300kWh. By changing halogens for LED, installing solar panels in 2010 and the kids going off to uni etc, I managed to reduce it to just below 2,000. Then I got a PHEV which sent usage up and now a BEV which increases it further. I think...

Thank you, it is there. Not quite so optimistic as the figures we have been looking at but worth having anyway. Virtuous too! A Ripple use the P75 figure for the expected output. Ie 75% of the time the output will be that or more. It works to our benefit as it produces a lower figure to compare our...

Re: Small things matter
Gas is barely on for cooking and heating. Almost all gas used is now for HWT. Does anyone know how the cost v efficiency of electricity at 5p per kWh on Octopus Go and similar tariffs v gas at, say, 4p per kWh? Especially if the boiler comes on just for the hot water. My thoughts are that heating t...

Re: Just Joined the Intelligent Octopus Tariff
7 meters is a bit long, the requirement these days is 3m max length from cut-out to CU, but I wouldn't sweat it. Just keep an eye on your voltage "sag". Ah, I was wanting to go from the Fuse to my 'power station' and back to the CU. 20 meters each way. I was intending to use 25mm cabling....

All the following conditions must be observed: Equipment on a building should be sited, so far as is practicable, to minimise the effect on the external appearance of the building and the amenity of the area. When no longer needed equipment should be removed as soon as reasonably practicable. All t...

Re: Golden Arches
Reading the article, it is only the construction of the building which is net zero, not its supply chains or the its operation. The only spin is in the prese release. There is no spin in non-rotating VWAT (pun intended). Any half decent publicity officer would have managed a photo of the building in...

Nowty, Thanks for your reply. I appreciate and value your insight. Together with insight from other early investors, it encouraged me to assess the merits of the project, invest and then to invest an additional amount. I am still glad that I did so. Some further thoughts below. I hasten to add these...

Re: Part ownership of a Wind Turbine, fancy it?
Thanks for the explanation, Nowty. I can see where they are coming from but have issues with their logic. For PV, the HMRC limit was set in times of the generous FIT rate. Thus it lets you earn up to around 4 x your electricity costs depending on prices,FIT and export rates etc. For Ripple you can e...

Re: Part ownership of a Wind Turbine, fancy it?
I am confused about the tax treatment and the electricity usage limit. As I understand it, each member gets a reduction in their electricity bill. Part of this is a repayment of our investment and part is taxed as interest income. If that is the case, why are HMRC bothered about the 120% rule for FI...
