Re: EVs hit 32% in the UK

Full marks to CleanTechnica for not including self charging hybrids as EVs.

However, if they did, the share would rise to 46%

Re: "Kinetic Hydro"

I know the founder well. Lovely chap and very smart. Iirc he says the biggest issue is getting permission to install. They did a trial install up in Fort William using the aluminium factory outflows. Gareth Do you know if there has been any recent developments. The website announced in a news lette...

Re: Half price IOG tonight

My interpretation was that if we plugged an EV in on Monday night, everything that we used between 2330 and 0530 would be at the 50% rate as it specifically said it was for the home and suggested that other heavy loads could be performed, eg dishwashers and washing machines. The only condition was t...

Re: Half price IOG tonight

So I ran through the night on battery power. Didn't plug the car in from just before 1100 yesterday. Battereis got through effortlessly even with the AC running low-and-slow all day. Sun is up and shining now and already covering the household use as well as putting 1.5kW into the batteries. I wond...

One heck of a sudden loss of load https://i.postimg.cc/phcHHNFZ/spain-disconnection.jpg Some information about what went wrong, and how they brought the Grid back online https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c175ykvjxyeo Reading the BBC report, it appears that it was a loss of generating capacity rat...

Re: System down!

Meanwhile ---- Are grid tied inverters common/uncommon in the UK? Mine lasting 8+ years not terribly bad, considered normal MTBF 10-15 years. The are particularly suited to the "net billing" situation where the grid acts as a giant, essentially unlimited capacity battery. But like I said,...

Re: Peak generation of a north facing array

With arrays facing the sun, we can usually work out what the peak generation is likely to be. I don't think it's possible to calculate this (at least, I can't see a way) for north facing arrays that never receive direct sun. Is there a way to do this without waiting for mid-summer? The back story i...

Re: Electric fishing boat

Well, even in the case of a sailing boat/ship doubtful IF it also has a motor (and thus propeller). When the motor not in use (mainly for docking, going through a bridge or narrow channel, getting out of embayment, etc.) the prop shaft is usually declutchhed so the prop can freewheel. But could als...

Re: Cheaper Electric

The majority of gas and leccy prices are set many months in advance and part of years in advance. Temporary changes in exchange rates just mean different Cos gain and loose. Is this correct? As I understand it, wind farms being subsidised with a contract for differences sell at spot prices because ...

This is my set up.
The big CT clamp below the earth cable is for my solar PV and the small one just above it on the live tail between the two Henley blocks is for the battery inverter/charger
