Re: Dealing with excess solar:

Seems a huge waste of power potential to me, but as low leccy users, lots of batteries and panels im over specced for the winter. Goal being no leccy bill all year bar standing charges. Have had discussions with neighbour about throwing a suitable extension lead over the wall to his to power his im...

Re: Small things matter

Locally sourced rough sawn Scots pine timbers are on standby in a separate wee bit. So guys, question. Cladding? Spruce Pine Larch... Which one for cladding & why, any input much appreciated. 🤔 👏 Does it need cladding? That will further reduce the light in the rooms behind it. Pretend it's like...

Re: No Coal but Oil ??

Maybe need to run them properly occasionally to check everything still works? Anyway, this morning pumped storage was mopping up 1.3 GW. I've never seen anything like this before... That's very good news. Please pass on our many thanks... (And I wish him well for keeping the tubes on the market. Ours have performed faultlessly for 17 years now, I think, and if you are replumbing I reckon it is still worth incorporating them for the shoulder months when electricity needs to be s...

Fixation on UK nuclear power may not help to solve climate crisis

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/10/fixation-on-nuclear-power-in-uk-may-not-help-to-solve-climate-crisis In the battle to prevent the climate overheating, wind and solar are making impressive inroads into the once dominant market share of coal. Even investors in gas plants ar...

Re: Emporia tablet

My MIL is 87 and fit as a fiddle. Nonetheless SWMBO worries. I thought it would be a good idea to get her a simple tablet for video calls. First of all, we found that not all (or indeed many) tablets have sim cards. We settled on this Empotia tablet for seniors and got a £8 2GB.per month 1 year con...

Ok so what tech is in these "agricultural barns and storage units"?! https://renews.biz/93048/statkrafts-uk-grid-stabilising-project-clears-planning/ I would take (They have identified Norfolk as an area which requires grid stabilisation. This new Necton Greener Grid Park will provide tha...

Re: Balcony solar PV

I am gobsmacked at 405W black on black panels for £65. Buy a few and they get delivered for free, rather amazing 👏. Me too! Those same panels were £125 or so when I started costing my roof last autumn, had fallen to £95 (I think) when the install happened in Jan. I am really tempted to invest in a ...

Re: GivEnergy equipment and experiences?

a month or two further in, and I'm (quite) enjoying juggling Flux import, solar charging of the battery and evening export, but the app./ website controls have (politely) been described as "clunky!" The most annoying thing is that when you set it to export, the control says "This mode...
