Octopus Tariff Change

...or not! I have had an email saying - Flexible Octopus prices are falling from July 1. Your smart tariff prices are coming down too. - To help you make the most of the sunshine, your Octopus Flux Export unit rates are staying put. except that the only change is a 1.7p drop in my standing charge. M...

Re: 100 solar panels per second in China.

I think most people (including me) can't really grasp just how big China is. Getting on for 20% of the world population, 6% of the land area. When you have an authoritarian state that size and they put their mind to something it's almost unstoppable. Which is a good thing in this case... I agree tha...

Re: Octopus Free Power Hours

I am wondering whether Octopus hope to reclaim some of the costs when people who have programmed an extra battery charge forget to cancel it and find they have to pay for daytime-rate electricity when they let it repeat? I have remembered to cancel mine! A The rewards for SS and PH are so derisory ...

Re: Octopus Free Power Hours

it has turned out to be ideal for me to charge my battery, as I did a full export 4 to 7 pm yesterday and today has been overcast so far, I'm only back up to 53% now! Should be able to export full bore again this evening after this...

Re: Thermal cookers?!

The best use of a pressure cooker for me is beef stew made with cheap cuts, really unctuous!* Steak and Kidney suet pudding is one of my favourites too (and sweet ones are good as well - e.g. with marmelade in the bottom.)
*(Belly pork with onions and apples works well too!)

Re: Thermal cookers?!

We used to do alot of slow cooking, especially in the winter months, but i find the pressure cooker to be the go to now both for efficiency and speed in comparison. What used to be 30 mins max prep then go to work and have dinner ready when you get home is now 30 mins prep then by the time youve ha...

Re: Thermal cookers?!

It goes back decades, if not centuries, last century it was called a haybox! I first saw it in a Scout Camping book in about 1965, You bring your porrage to a boil in the evening, then nestle it in a tea-chest (anybody remember them?) packed with hay and next morning it is (hopefully) still hot and ...

Re: Octopus Free Power Hours

Looks likes it only free EV charging ... And not for the whole house (if on intelligent octopus go) so... 7p x 6.5kW (max car charge ish). 45.5p saved 😕 I'm not on anything "Go" but I am in: There’s plenty of green power in the wires tomorrow, and you know what that means… Free Electricit...
