Re: Page update.

The recent topics are at the top on my phone.

Given my knowledge of technology mostly involves a hammer I've no idea how I set this up.

Re: the world has gone mad

Opinion on whether or not the river needed dug out isn't relevant to his conviction. He deliberately, knowingly and repeatedly broke the law and that's why he has been convicted.

Re: SSEN seeks feedback on grid upgrades

Are they upgrading an existing line. I have a 275kv line within 60mtrs of the farmhouse which I am ok with as its squarely in the yellow zone on the red yellow green scale for health living next door to pylons. Not been told officially yet but looking on National Grid interactive map upto 2030 our ...

Re: SSEN seeks feedback on grid upgrades

Noise from the cables, or transformers/switch gear? Or the construction noise? There are 2 separate cases. One is the insulators, on one pylon the topography funnels wind in exactly the right direction to cause a loud whistling. It's a known, but rare, issue and should be solved by using a differen...

Re: SSEN seeks feedback on grid upgrades

Yeah, it goes through our parish. There was an initial consultation last year and I'm sure it will come up at next week's community council meeting! We also have the Knocknagael to Tomatin reinforcement which was done a couple of years ago and has resulted in a few issues for some people. We had a r...

Re: Despatches "Dirty secrets of american food"

I guess one of the things about agriculture on this scale is there are hazards that don't affect small operations. I have 10 cattle in a shed and have never considered the possibility of the shed exploding, it's naturally ventilated so why would it? A rough calculation shows that 20k cows will produ...

Re: Despatches "Dirty secrets of american food"

https://www.fwi.co.uk/news/explosion-and-fire-kill-18000-cows-on-us-dairy-farm Perhaps relevant to standards & attitudes towards food production. Even big dairy farmers here have been double checking that there are no typos in this article as it's an unimaginable way of producing food for most o...

Re: Coire Glas progress?

I have wondered if the proposed loch Kemp PSH scheme (not far from coire Glas) is to get round this. It is very close to Corriegarth (which iirc is about 150MW) and could probably have their own private convection to the windfarm, eliminating grid charges.

Re: High altitude hydro

Altitude is fairly meaningless without knowing the head. I visited the Grande Dixance dam a number of years ago which has a head of over 1800m. Is that still the highest in the world? There must be some kind of practical limit to the pressure that can be managed on these projects. 1800m gives about ...

Re: December?

13.5 kWh so far in December. Zero since the 8th despite quite a lot of sunshine. Probably be another couple of days before the snow slides off the panels. The snow on the roof is slowly moving creating a pretty overhang though. https://i.postimg.cc/2qZs700z/IMG-20221213-WA0007.jpg https://i.postimg....
