Re: Reducing our carbon footprint...
In oil exploration, one of the most polluting industries in the world, every drillship I have worked on has run on diesel, largely because it is cleaner than heavy marine oil..... And cruise ships run on heavy oil? You would have thought that it's an industry that would want to protect its reputation.

Re: Bicrop planting win.
It's still done on the Machair ground in the Western isles, usually a mix of Machair oats and rye. The idea being that, in an area marginal for growing, if the weather doesn't suit one cereal then hopefully the other will be ok and famine can be avoided. Nowadays it is mostly baled as wholecrop sila...

Re: Solar Diverter
Thanks for those ideas folks. I think those means I will (starting with the simplest, cheapest options); 1) investigate why the immersion is not drawing the full 2kw. 2) investigate if the inverter has export limitation and see if Gareth's idea is possible as that could get me up to 3kw with only th...

Solar Diverter
I currently have an IBoost diverting to my hot water tank. As the tank is quite big it has a 6kw immersion heater in it (which actually consists of 3 X 2kw elements). As the IBoost is only rated for 3.68kw it is only connected to one element - and even then the max power it diverts is only about 1.2...

Bit of a thread swerve but it would now seem that Ukraine does provide lots of cooking oil so were are potentially screwed on that front as crops have not been planted etc. I amsure we will survive and less fried food will probably do everyone some good in the long term. I'm sure we, in the rich wo...

Re: UK to build new nuclear fleet - did we not learn the last time around ?
I suspect that when decisions are to be made about nuclear, there is a nondescript man from the MOD standing in the background making sure that the decision makers are keenly aware that if there is not a viable civilian nuclear industry it would make it much more difficult and expensive for the coun...

Re: Part ownership of a Ripple Wind Turbine, fancy it?
Going by the lane I'm not sure how they are going to get the turbines up there. Malc. [/quote] It is common for developers to pay for upgrades to the roads. Sometimes because they have to for access (replacing bridges, widening corners etc) and sometimes as a concession / benefit for the local commu...

4kw panels / 3.68kw inverter. March generation: 456 kWh PVGIS: 238kw %PVGIS: 191% A remarkable run of sunny days in the second half of the month. I checked the Met Office monthly summary which says we had 170% of the average number of hours of sunshine in march which correlates fairly well with what...

Re: where next for me with energy storage and extra generation
Why all the outdoor lighting? I find it sad that pretty much no-one in this country can see the stars properly due to all the lights - and it is getting worse. I am in a relatively remote area (a circle 3km radius from my house would only cover 6 other houses - head south from my back door and you w...
