Re: Accelerated grid connections for renewables
Brill news, but raises a question for me, if anyone knows the answer. The article mentions, as Dan points out, that the DNO (distribution network) approves, prior to the transmission network (National Grid*). So, just wondering, but does power go 'up' from the distribution network, to the transmissi...

Re: Mouse problem in poly tunnel
May have been a fluke, but we caught a mouse last week. We no longer have any 'tough' cats that grew up 'on da streets', or are fully mobile, so our homegrown cats like to bring mice in, and let them loose in the house. Anyways, the mouse took shelter behind the kitchen cabinets. Then fou...

Re: High density hydro
Thanks, great to learn new stuff each day.
Back to costs, is it fair to assume that the fluid mix will be cheap, so the 2.5x mass makes sense?
Not a trick question, not asking for a yes/no on viability, just interested to know if the basic idea has wings?

Re: High density hydro
Reminds me of those bottles of kaolin and morphine as a kid, that you had to shake well, overwise it was just morphine ....... ah, that explains why you don't see it any more.

Re: High density hydro
Same here Dan, I thought this was one of those 'interesting, but won't go anywhere' ideas. Assuming the dense fluid is cost effective, then it sounds like a great idea for closed systems.
How much does mercury cost at ~13.5x the density of water?

Re: Cam Pets, or Petcam?
Whilst we don't do much boarding for Guide Dogs now (since I got Long Covid), we do cover respite, emergencies etc.. So we've been lucky to look after the lovely Kelly for one or two days, on a number of occassions this year. She's adorable and loves a cuddle. Here's a pic of her playing with our bo...

Re: England could produce 13 times more renewable energy
Thanks Ken, eye-opening context.
I'm always heartened by the reports from Mark Jacobson at Stanford University. We have the solutions today, and they are cost-effective / cost-competitive. So the improvements over the next 26yrs add much more excitement, if we'll just get on with it, a tad faster.

Re: PV so cheap it can be used as structure
We must be close to PV panels for fencing v's say a 6x4ft wooden panel that needs painting/maintenance? I was thinking bifacial panels on the EW facing sections of motorways could have potential. Yep, (E/W facing panels) perhaps as those sound reducing fences? Looking at Australia, India, parts of ...
