Re: Conversion of classic car to EV

As I understand it it's an expensive business to get a car converted but if you do plan to DIY then be careful about how you do it as apparently you're not allowed to make any structural modifications and the car must be inspected before it can be reclassified as an EV*. If the car is over 40 years ...

Re: "Kinetic Hydro"

I wonder if that avoids all the hassle of being required to have an "abstraction" licence for hydro (even though you put all the water back in again). Could be a game-changer for small scale hydro (if it's reliable and cost-effective etc.).

Re: Any hifi buffs/nerds here?

I built a pair of these speakers ~25 years ago: https://i.postimg.cc/FRm1KHBF/IMG-20250505-091930.jpg My brother's design (speaker design was part of his PhD), my woodwork -MDF with oak veneer. I find that I don't just sit and listen to music as much as I used to though. I still buy CDs rather than ...

Re: 'Sharing' a pt1000 sensor

I'd imagine each controller would put a fixed current through it and measure the voltage. Two controllers = twice the current = twice the voltage. That's going to give completely the wrong measurement. Is the sensor poked into a pocket in the tank? If so, I'd just poke another one into the same hole...

Re: Making Methane in Swindon

Here's a thought: why not co-site it with an anaerobic digester that's burning methane from food waste to generate electricity.

Or am I missing something? :joker:

Re: Solar Panel Cleaning

Looks a lot cleaner Stig... Did you see an increase in generation after the cleaning? I can't see the generation figure without going into the loft and looking at the inverter display* and anyway, the sun came out after he'd left. The proof of the pudding will be the annual generation, I'm hoping t...

It's been about 20 here today but I got a "Facebook memory" reminding me that 4 years ago today my garden had 2 inches of snow on it! Gotta love the UK 'climate'. :hysteria:

Re: Solar Panel Cleaning

So, I've been mulling this over and looking at the prices of new panels it looks like around £500 would give me an upgrade from the current 2.05kWp to around 3.5kWp. Of course my FIT income would only go up by the 'lost' generation of the current system, maybe £120 a year. I might benefit a bit more...

Re: Pakistan’s solar revolution

A very interesting article, nice to read a bit of depth behind the headline. That picture looks suspiciously AI-generated though, what's going on around that hand rail?
