Sheffield Solar Microgen Database closing

The Sheffield University Solar Microgen Database, which has been running since 2011 and providing generation capacity data and forecasting information, is closing. I've been submitting my monthly readings to them for the last 9 years, basically since I got my SolarPV in the first place, but I got an...

Re: REUTERS Analysis: When do electric vehicles become cleaner than gasoline cars?

For a short while, Tesla made the Long Range Rear Wheel Drive, this weighed 1725kg. So from that you can establish the front motor/gearbox/transmission assembly weighs about 100kg, and the additional batteries are another 100kg ish.

Re: REUTERS Analysis: When do electric vehicles become cleaner than gasoline cars?

Exactly, as usual so much is left hanging on a cliff edge of uncertainty. And the dual motor is relevant as its another 225kg+ of motor "tipping the scales" of embedded materials energy & the like, without these it's a bit of joke & prone to being deemed flawed rather than covered...

Re: REUTERS Analysis: When do electric vehicles become cleaner than gasoline cars?

Later on it says the Tesla has a 54kWh battery, which makes it the Standard Range Plus (the entry level machine). Interestingly, the Made in China version of that car/battery size now features a LiFePO2 battery chemistry, completely different to the NCA chemistry used in the Fremont cars... To be ho...

Re: Farmers swapping crops for solar

I seem to remember on the other place that there was also much discussion about the potential for solar PV farms to co-exist with productive farmland - mounting the panels higher allows grazing animals like sheep to go about their business? Wonder why that's not mandatory for solar-in-productive-far...

Interesting point here about the DNO having changed its policy for connections by enabling some sort of flexible generation mechanism which the DNO controls?

Dogger Bank power cable

This is interesting I think. Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farms are so far off shore and the capacity so large, that they will use HVDC to bring the power back on-shore - and the transformer station in Dogger Bank will be completely autonomous. https://renews.biz/69293/dogger-bank-unveils-unmanned-hvdc...

Mocean wave power device

Looks like a new wave power generation machine is being tested up in Orkney. No information about how much power it's meant to generate though.
