Re: Wind curtailment Monitor
I don't buy this "one week in thirty years" argument, as I said earlier we already have the gas infrastructure in place to cope with freak events. We know we must burn less stuff, so we electrify heating at a sensible rate but design hybrid heating systems to run HP and Gassers in parallel...

Re: Wind curtailment Monitor
So what?? In the UK we have about 75GW of generation connected yet we rarely if ever need the full 75Gigs, there has ale=ways been capacity sitting around idle costing money to staff and maintain for when it is needed, curtailed if you like. This has been the same ever since Mr Elec built the first ...

Re: Improving our existing housing stock
Agreed, mostly. We need to concentrate on existing housing stock, it's going to be around a long time given our glacial new build pace. I would give generous grants payable direct to whoever installed it, DIYer, jobbing builder, specialist only after a proper inspection by LABC. There is loads of lo...

Re: DNO Approval
I notified Shedhenge when it went live in Feb/March via g98 to UKPN as a diy system no problem . Also we have applied on behalf of a customer for a 5kW ish system, no news yet but so far they seem happy with the info we have supplied, we are not MCS but a registered sparks will do all the AC connect...

Re: Insulating Timber Garage
If there is no heating in the garage I wouldn't bother with insulation, it wouldn't keep it materially cooler in summer either, condensation wont be an issue unless there is a source of moisture in there. My workshop is studwork clad in shiplap with a tyvek membrane and it is nice and draught free w...

Re: Water everywhere but not...
Well the irony, a company dealing with the universal solvent is.............insolvent ha ha ha. As Moxi says, it was all so predictable and straight out of the Neo-lib play book. Govt first under invests in a public utility, then spreads BS that public ownership is rubbish, citing underperforming ca...

Re: Any day now 🤞
And they’re here 😁 A tad frustrating as the DPD tracker went from “we have your shipment details, but no package as yet”, to being delivered all within 2 hours! Hey ho. But they have landed on the door mat & that’s the main thing. So that’ll keep me busy into the new year - although I can’t get...

Re: Q BOT sprayed under floor insulation
I've come to the conclusion this kind of stuff is bollocks on older properties having been up close and personal with the roof type stuff several times. We saw no end of damp problems in the rafters due to every tiny ingress of water being unable to dry out and building up over time. Just by chance ...

Any engineers out there?
Finally I have started restoring my old motorbike, a 1958 (a good year ;) ) Matchless G2 after 40 odd years of sitting in various sheds. Many bits are extremely hard to come by, so I will be looking for someone who can do a bit of turning and maybe milling work, for things such as bolts, nuts bushes...
