Welsh solar farm exceeds expectations in powering Swansea hospital:
Health board-owned Brynwhillach installation generates enough over 50-hour period to fulfil all of Morriston site’s energy needs

The UK’s first solar farm owned by a health board and linked directly to a hospital has exceeded expectations by, at times, providing all the electricity needed to run the site, even during the winter months.
Health chiefs and Welsh government ministers had hoped the solar farm in south-west Wales would supply Morriston hospital in Swansea with a fifth of its energy consumption every year.
However, they were surprised and pleased that the Brynwhillach Farm, which is linked to Morriston by a two-mile cable, provided enough energy over one 50-hour period to meet 100% of the hospital’s demands.
It is estimated that the 10,000-panel farm, which was switched on in November, has already saved £120,000 in electricity bills, and the board has on occasions been able to sell power back to the energy grid.

Interesting that an NHS health board actually owns an entire solar farm - I guess it was cheaper than putting panels on the hospital buildings?

Shame they didn't tarmac the field first put the panels up like a canopy and then run shuttle buses to the hospital and use it as a car park - dual use and i suspect as most hospitals these days they have parking chaos!. Maybe thats something they can do in stages retrospectively ?

With a quoted 10k panels it would need to be a very large hospital.potentially 250MW, or more, seems like overkill for a small hospital - so, yes, a lot of power will be sold to the grid shortly - unless the solar farm has been planned to power other local sites.

and if you think about the amount of extraction and air handling equipment (probably) on the roof it's worth avoiding any complications.
In fact Google Earth shows

which has some pv on roofs (ves?) but lots of pitched roofs which are relatively inaccessible as they surround courtyards.
