Ring the insulation where you want to remove it for the normal crimp and again closer to the end of the cable half way up.
Remove the rear portion, push the crimp onto cable and it will push insulation back, once crimp is half in remove the second bit of insulation

Thanks for the suggestions...

I've just had another go with the cable ties and these things will not go on.

Image

The further in I go it just squashes the rest of the strands down and makes them wider.

Gave up....

The cables are too big.. can't even hammer them on.

Maybe 40mm² lugs will fit the cable better.

Edit... Don't even think they do 40mm²... Either 35 or 50....FFS!

I read that as 6.42mm diameter. Which works out as 32.37mm². Given the cable looks a bit squished then it is deffo 35mm². Problem must be with the lugs!
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Copper cable diameter looks like about 10.9mm.
Inside diameter of lug looks to be about 8.5mm.

What does that equate to in mm²?

1/0 AWG (American Wire Gauge) wire has a cross-sectional area of approximately 53.5 mm².

Why did I think I had 35mm² cable?
