I understand that for measuring the export, you get paid for what goes out.
It is the FIT part that I don't understand. My FIT is made up of the generation amount (~40p/kWh) and there is a deemed export of 50% of that for which I get paid ~3p/kWh ( I don't remember the precise figures but it's immaterial) so to get SEG you must get taken off the deemed export arrangement, effectively 1.5P /kWh should be taken off your FIT payments.

My fit statements (and I assume everyone else's) have 2 separate bits, one is Generation and the other is Export.
I simply contacted SSE (my FiTs provider) and asked for export payments to be stopped. A marker is put on the FiTs register to show you are no longer entitled to export payments under the FiTs scheme. You are then free to register for SEG payments from a supplier of your choice.
Your FiT payments and statements then only show details of your generation which comes from your Total Generation Meter. So no deduction as you don't get paid it. Everyone knows that you are (or are not) getting FiT export payments as they can look/check the FiT register.
Be aware that this is essentially a one way process. Once you have "given up" FiT export payments you cannot go back - at least that is what I was told and understood.

The FIT export tariff is now 4.82p / kWh for installs before July 2012 and 6.79p / kWh for installs post that date.

Thanks. It seems from the subsequent discussion that the existing TGM will continue to record all the FIT generation and a smart meter will correctly record the total of all exports for SEG whether they originate on the AC or the DC side. As an aside, my new DC-connected panels had to have an AC meter assigned so its serial number could be put on the MCS certificate(!). But it wasn't wired up and remains to this day in the installers' stores as they said it could not be re-used.

I've just gone through the Octopus tariffs in more detail - I see what you mean about Flux - exporting at 21 or 33p/kWh could make a big difference instead of the current 5p - even if I'm not planning to do much swapping - ie deliberately charging at low rate and exporting at peak rateLesNewell wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:01 am Richbee, depending on your tariff optimising for minimum import may not be the best strategy. I do have to wonder how sustainable that tariff is. Nothing else out there even comes close. It will be interesting too see if it is still around in a couple of years. In the mean time I intend to make full use of it as soon as my solar is installed. Apparently it should not be long now.
