Buy a 6 pack of decent ice blocks you cheapskate, then they are always buffering

Re: Power out
No Gus, that is not the way of the Womble. Heavily calcified village water in existing containers is the way.
Now two of as liking the idea a lot!

If you need to lower the temperature in the fridge after opening the door a few times just sprinkle a little table salt on the ice and it will rapidly lower the temperature to something south of 0 degrees (depending on salt levels) as it tries to claw enough energy from the air to perform its (water) liquid phase transition.
Same thing they do when making ice cream, bowl of ice cubes - some salt water and another bowl inside of that with the liquid contents for the ice cream, salt on the ice takes the temperature down to around -18 degrees C and helps to rapidly freeze the contents of the second bowl.

Re: Power out
Nice one cracking ! We have added a gravity fed water tank upstairs to offset any water outages(200 ltr), usb powerbank to keep net up and running and now keeping the fridge cool. We have gas (boo hiss) for boiling water if needed. Will add some sort of solar charger but likely to be a camping backpack version as going beyond that is only to satisfy my own tech urges. All in all, in a good space for when utilities drop out. Wouldn't have got to this space without us all bouncing these ideas back and forth for years.Moxi wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 11:08 am JB

There are 30W fold out solar chargers with onboard USB ports out there. NOT what I had in mind at all but can see the practical side...

Re: Power out
I do get ok results from balcony dangling & leaving kit on charge (out of the heat) plenty of glare off the glàciers

Re: Power out
Huge ice cubes looking good. One more prepper scenario taken care of. One must have the correctly chilled GnT in the zombie apocalypse.
Found my way to those 1 stop shop power units... very nice for what they do but oochah, pricey.
