Balcony solar PV
Re: Balcony solar PV
Really excellent milestone at the Enphase powerhouse. Unexpected triple digit generation even with some shading.

Re: Balcony solar PV
Its really impressive watching the rapid increase in Generation through the month of February, we are now starting to show sensible gains in reduced grid import most days and on fine days we are seeing sensible charging to the stack (we only charge via solar here) It wont be too long before the grid import becomes negligible again and we are working solely off the batteries and the panels daily.
Happy days

That's great to read. We are heading the same way.Moxi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 3:57 pm Its really impressive watching the rapid increase in Generation through the month of February, we are now starting to show sensible gains in reduced grid import most days and on fine days we are seeing sensible charging to the stack (we only charge via solar here) It wont be too long before the grid import becomes negligible again and we are working solely off the batteries and the panels daily.

There is a bit more shade rectification work to be done in the forest. Enphase powerhouse is defo the pet project around here. I love the idea of 4th hand stuff and a rummage through the sidelined electrical parts box somehow turning into genuine useable self generated home power.
Another month or so and hopefully we'll be at a handy meridian for most of the day and the Enphase can show its capabilities. 200W output would be nice to see.
I tried again for a set of panels on the cabin but so far its a no go. Hope springs eternal!

I find Spring Equinox to Autumn Equinox, even if its heavy cloud there is more than enough solar to get by.

Aye, true. I've likely forgotten a bit over Winter how mad it gets. Had a nice 25kWh day here today excl Hoymiles & Enphase. I'll be so tickled if Enphase gets up to putting out 1kWh per day. Very uncle Bulgaria in style and those old skool.aluminium frames.

Splitting logs today for next Winter. Took a wander over to No1's, surprised to see how close the panel outputs are with the very different pitches? Thats a learning point for me.

Re: Balcony solar PV
Anyone running Enphase IQ7 micro inverters? Wondering what the max potential generation anyone has tried for? Online data says 350W max but wondering if its ok to overspec and the microinverter will throttle back on peak May days for example?

Re: Balcony solar PV
In my ongoing search for classic PV I've sourced 4 of 80W BP 12V panels. Will run them as two strings of two series panels. This will get me into the required voltage territory to operate the IQ7 micro inverter.
It would be much simpler to just buy a single 350W panel and I might yet but there's something cool about this old discontinued gear still producing power. Possibly I feel an affinity...

Had one of those moments of strong sun breaking through the cloud layer. Me n SWMBO were putting up birdboxes. Imagine our surprise to see this as if from nowhere.

Re: Balcony solar PV
Nice, sadly we are in double figures (Watts) for the solar arrays here today, torrential rain gusty 40mph winds and we are in the cloud base, its always a sign of a dull day when the PIR lights in the bathroom stails and kitchen come on in the middle of the day
I hope the majority are fairing better than us today, I will cross my fingers for more favourable weather in a few days although March has been good so far so I cannot complain.
