I'm sure I didn't see this when I looked at the weather forecast earlier in the week! Cloudless sky, 10AM and I'm struggling to use the power I'm generating.
  • Washing machine on
  • Tumble drier on
  • Dehumidifier on
  • SH in the garden office charging
  • PHEV full to brim
I cannot remember the last time I managed to charge a SH on solar!

I've been waiting for this break in the dull grey layers for two days now, battery stack is desperately needing a lift, so much so I have been contemplating some more panels on the south wall for winter input.

Great to read that you are seeing some late Sept bonus sun. While I cannot control the sunshine I can control how far I make it go in the house. Low energy bulbs and machines is the way to go. From losing the 🌞 around 17.00hrs (power not light) we are using about 20% of the stack over the following five hours and hitting the go faster window at around 59% remaining soc most nights. A significant change from when we were two batteries and I had not completed the efficiency runs through the house.

In saying that I found a hole in the kitchen floor leading to subfloor and also two incandescent 40W light bulbs in the cooker hood in the past week. My point is that multiple go's through the house were needed but when we did it the difference was apparent.

I'm importing overnight now, temperatures are dropping, days are shortening, and I returned to the house yesterday with the EV at 12% after a non stop 250 mile journey. I would normally have done a quick splash and dash pitstop but Tesla are now charging 62p / kWh now, so I preferred using the Octopus virtual battery at a price cheaper than the WT1 rebate. 8-)

Zen (EV) is like the cat, hungry and needs feeding.

Charged ours overnight a couple of days ago, almost the first time since March we've paid to charge it, as the forecast was for cloudy weather. What happens? We have a couple of days with plenty of excess to have charged the car. Very frustrating when the official weather guessers get it wrong . . .

What do ppl think of forecasting sites e.g. https://toolkit.solcast.com.au? I have only been using it for the past week but it seems helpful. Is there anything better?
