Mental May

#1

Post by Joeboy »

As no one else has done it...

A May of rains, fogs, mists and blazing sunshine too. Its not consistent enough for generation PB's but we did see a momentary 8kW+ around midday which is a first for the year and we had a 50kWh day a couple ago. :D

Anyone else?

You're right about the weather! So far my panels have produced 609.5kWh and if the second half goes much the same as the first I calculate that would give me 1260kWh where as the average for May has been 1620kWh.
Still it might surprise me and gain some extra kWh's as the month progresses.
3.87kWp PV
10.24kWp PV SolarEdge system
Tesla Powerwall 2
100 x 47mm Navitron tubes (still being installed!) Now likely to be removed for more PV.

Yes - I've had an alltime PB of 33.1kWh on Saturday - but the month so far is a couple of kWh per day down on the PVGIS estimate. Have to wait and see.
Definitely glad I have the 2nd battery tho - hitting over 90% electricity from solar so far for the month.

I’m up in the north with my folks at the moment and SWMBO keeps asking me on WhatsApp if she can run a 50 degree load, or plug her EV in and I’m like, whatever. 🤣

Finally have hit the time of year when it does not seem to matter what the weather is like, as there is more than enough to fill everything up.
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated

May has been awful here
Yesterday was the first decent day this month and managed 27 kWh.
Plenty of days in April beat yesterday.
Average is down on April although the last 2 days are just above April’s average

I'm wary of that. ATM I get deemed export of half the generation from my 2011 panels, which works in my favour, and nothing from the 2022 ones which are on the DC side.

No-one has explained how the metering could work. I suppose a smart meter would measure the total export and you could then deduct the TGM reading of the old panels to get the contribution of the new.

But if I get a smart meter to get SEG for the latter they will put me on to actual export from the former in line with latest OFGEM ruling. So swings and roundabouts and IMO not worth the hassle.
