That's what I thought too - that's land that would take decades to ever come back into use for anything else otherwise.

Have they had anyone flying in their friends private helicopter taking pictures and complaining about it being a blot on the landscape yet?

When I drive North through Germany I see very many solar farms, small and large. It appears they are accepted as normal, not much choice really when they shut all of the nuclear down.
