Solar Edge: site layout/mapper software

Hi,

I’m a SE system owner. I’ve added to it over the years and now my site map needs updating to include the changes made. I have an installer ID and access to the site layout tool.

Thing is that I don’t know how to use it. Can anyone point me in the right direction in terms of tutorials or training material please.

I could go back to my original installer and ask them to do it, but I’d rather not for a number of reasons. I’ve had no engagement with them since the system was installed eight years ago so can see them wanting to charge me - whereas if I learn how to do it myself I’m self sufficient for the future.
SE have said they can make changes for me, but dealing with them via the wattsapp portal would take forever & is essentially the same issue again as dealing with the installer.

Thanks - Rob

Hi Rob, how did you go about getting an installer ID and access to the site layout tool?

It was fairly straightforward actually. I just contacted them and asked how I could get access. They advised that my usual login ID for the monitoring package defined me as a user and therefore I was not able to have access to the site layout tool and Setapp for my newer inverters. However, they advised that if I were to register with them using another email address, then I could define myself as a DIY installer (although I forget the exact wording as it was a couple of years ago now). They would review the application and get back to me, which they did within 24 hours.

So essentially, I’m known to them twice, once as a system owner, and once as an installer, via two email addresses.

My only dialogue with them has been through the WhatsApp portal, which does seem to be a bit clunky to start with, but I have to say it gets the job done - albeit a bit time-consuming.

I’ve only used this installer ID in anger for configuring my newer screenless inverters as you can only view only otherwise - we ain’t much use if you’re trying to install one. I have access to site layout tool, but not for a considerable period of time, but didn’t feel confident enough to make any actual changes.

Hopefully that will make sense.

Rob

Cheers Rob, I'll give that a try as I have a SE system but the layout doesn't show the panels in the correct positions and I would also like to install a new SE inverter when I replace my FIT's system.

I should’ve said that once your ID gets approved, et cetera, you’ll be prompted to join their academy. I get emails from them on a regular basis with all sorts of tips, et cetera aim installers I’m sure that there’s stuff hidden within this portal, which will answer what I’m after, however TBH, I haven’t really spent a huge amount of time delving into all that because there’s masses and masses of it. I was hoping somebody might be able to point me in the right direction …….

I'd be interested in how you get on. My panels are wrong in the app as well  And at the moment I can fettle with the communications in mine which I won't be able to do once I have to replace it with one with no screen.

Hi, you will if you ask SE to allow you to use the commissioning feature of the setapp tool which configures these devices. Are you familiar with using the WhatsApp group to contact them? It’s a bit of a slow process doing it, but basically if you ask them, they will be able to help help you. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for that additional info Rob, I'm not familiar with the Whatsapp group for SE, what do I need to know?

Hi, yes I have spent some time with them trying to get a documented feature to work. They never managed to work out why it wasn't throttling back when the frequency was increased. I'll have a go, thanks.

Ok, so its a wattsapp number 07360 261181

You start a dialogue with it & the first few parts are automated:

It asks for a registered email address - use the one the monitoring system knows you by

Then it asks whether you are an end user or installer

Then it asks you for the category of issue from a list

Then it tries to get you to seek your own answer on line, but you can just continue

Then you're in, you will be connected to a real agent & can start a dialogue with them. You will need your site ID (format nnnnnn) and away you go. It can be a bit slow when they are busy & it’s obvious they have multiple dialogues on the go at any time. Hours are, from memory, about 09:00 to 16:00 UK time. The agents are located in eastern europe, i usually ask & ive noticed tgat they don’t always seem to read exactly what you send them, so it can be a little bit frustrating as you then have to repeat yourself. I don’t know whether it’s because English isn't their first language or they’re very busy. I actually find it very useful and have always managed to get a satisfactory outcome when I’ve interfaced with them. The only real downside is that it can be a little bit slow and clunky at busy times, but hey it’s free and it usually gets an outcome. If you ask them nicely, they even do a remote software update even on older inverters with the LCD screens.
