Year end figures, where are you and what is your plan?

My year end figures are

PV generated - Total of 5.432MWh Split as 3.52MWh on the solar edge system and 1.912MWh on the Victron system.

Power use 2016 - 5,762 kWh(E) & 30,376 kWh(G)
Power use 2021 - 4,423 kWh(E) & 11,385 kWh (G)
23% reduction(E) 62% reduction(G)

As I have been adding to and adjusting my RE mix since 2016 I can't put a finger on precise points of change so it is easier to do the whole thing 2016-2021. The electricity use has been skewed upward mightily by the addition of the EV to the family a while back. The EV itself has been home charged for the full year and has negated the purchase of around 270 Gallons of petrol in that time. That's 6 metal oil drums of petrol not bought for a visual!

Green kill count in comparison-1,339kWh of brown electricity/18,991kWh of Gas/1,228 ltrs Petrol. I am over the moon with that! :)

The addition of extra Pylontechs, growth of Victron PV system and the addition of a thermal store jacket around the woodstove has further eroded the impact of the shoulder months.

With the upcoming throwing of the breaker at Graig Fatha and my take up of Octopus Go faster we are actively seeking the extinction (or near to) of gas at our house in 2022. I have a little work to do on the Victron System to ensure we are fully capable of accepting and using all the power it will be generating in the upcoming months (hoping for around 6.5MWH total generated in 22). Also going to go back up into the loft and see how I view the insulation up there now. The tech is all great of course but it always comes back to insulate, insulate, insulate. Hoping the Ioniq 5 works out too. A shame I had to let the Model Y go before it even arrived..

I have had an excellent time here at Camelot and for year 1 New Year I wish to personally thank Merlin for using his spells so well and making this a good space to be in. I wish you and your families all the best for the New Year and If anyone wishes to share their take on the RE Year i'm sure we'd all enjoy reading it, Cheers! :)

Currently ~4 MWh electricity & ~15 MWh gas per year. Plan is to knock the current house down and start again with a new build Passivhaus over the next year, life permitting.

I'm not committing to any figures yet. Still generating!

As am I, a glorious 375W which is in reality actually charging the πŸ”‹. :D stack is up from 49% to..... 50%! Charging at 250W. Not complaining, actually amazed that anything is coming in. :)

Now THAT is an exciting plan! Best of fortune to you Paul. I hope you find time in amongst it all to post a couple of photos? I had a quick look at the plans link, very nice indeed. :)

Stinsy, Is PV2 the recently added second string on the cabin or did you ground mount?

PV2 is the panels on the roof of the shed!

Nice to see it working like that. Just realised, Stan did the groundmount.

3.18MWh from a west facing 3.6Kwp array.

Plans are for a small 600 watt south facing ground array linked to a small battery bank and an inverter limiter feeding back to the house at night.

A small wind turbine grid linked to hopefully feed background vampire type loads when the solar isn’t available.

Lots of thought and planning about hot water heating without a hot water cylinder and electric cooking to remove the need for lpg gas bottles.

Happy new year to one and all btw.

Nice, just for experience before you buy batteries. We started with a pair us2000 pylontechs. 4 years later we are running a stack of six and that pretty much matches our use thru the day. Might be worthwhile doing the homework early and see if you can get discounts for multiple units. In addition you save on multiple shipping charges by doing it once. Looking forward to seeing your builds.

I installed a 400W turnip on the house. Total waste of money. Never install on a house! Lesson learned! The Ripple turbines are worth a thought linked to Octopus and go or go faster. You get the benefit of wind speeds at 75 mtr alt, you don't have to maintain it and it looks like per kWh generated is worth 8p whereas per kWh bought on Go models are 5 to 5.5p. Combine that with batteries and you are storing power while being paid as well. Just another way to think about wind generation? Cheers!
