September Generation 2023

First month where I have a complete set of records to compare with last year, although much like Trigger's broom, not much of the original hardware remains.

The garage array generated 286.59kWh vs 272.31kWh last year, so about 5% more. Shading is definitely a factor now, but unless I knock my own house down there's not much that can be done.
The wall array combined with the bigger battery means I've managed to reduce import YoY, but unfortunately I had my first off-peak import since late April. I was hoping to make it to October without grid charging, perhaps next year!

Net grid usage for the year is 729kWh export, target is to avoid net import and I might just squeak it looking at historical numbers.

567kWh (expected generation, PVGIS, 6.4kWp system)
413kWh generated (72.7% expected generation)
330.05 kWh imported (98% imported during cheap period @17.76p/kWh)
321.70 kWh exported (Don't have the bill, but probable >50% exported in high rate period)

211.16 kWh of gas imported

I know for a fact that I've been losing two hours of good generation due to shading; nothing I can do about that, trees are on the street.

September is probably the month when I am around £20 either side of total breakeven (standing charge costs and gas import versus export profit etc).The next couple of months are going to show just how bad the shaded array gets. I will update when I get the bill. Even a larger battery wouldn't help much given the poor generation towards the end of the month, arbitrage excepted (and can't rely on that as it involves tariffs which I don't control).

I am very much interested in investing a a Ripple wind project, these figures are continuing to show that the only economic justification for expanded panel outlay is profit generation in summer (or to power an EV if and when I go that way.

My results for September were:

3.87 kWp, slope 50 degrees, due south, lat 57.15

Total generation: 374.5kWh

Daily average: 12.5kWh

Generation per kWp: 96.8kWh

Daily average per kWp: 3.2kWh

PVGIS: 286kWh

%PVGIS: 131%

Best September since install in 2010, 0.25kWh better than 2012 and 58kWh above the average for September.

Nowty Towers Power Station
Main 4kW PV system generated 390 kWh which is 5% below baseline.
Total PV arrays generated 950 kWh.

Electric Import was 175 kWh.
Gas import was 34 kWh.
Out of house EV charging was 123 kWh.
Petrol used in EV hybrid was 0 kWh.
Total imported energy use 332 kWh

PV electric export was 89 kWh.
Ripple GF wind farm generated 511 kWh which is 5% below baseline.
Total energy offset 600 kWh

Net energy import for Nowty Towers Minus 268 kWh :mrgreen:

2023 (cumulative) Net Energy Import 45 kWh :evil: and from end of September my PV generation falls off a cliff. :cry:

A decent Sept

Solaredge PV 327kWh
Victron PV 350kWh
Hoymiles PV 38kWh
Enphase PV 0kWh
Graig Fatha WT 457kWh

Total RE generation 1,172kWh Sept 23

For comparison Sept 22 produced a total of 880kWh RE. A 25% increase. :D

Bought 548kWh of electricity so the scale has definitely tipped. On the upside, zero gas and weather has been quite kind so not that much need for WBS. SH's are not on and SWMBO has the power on that one to declare on date. :ugeek:

My 2nd September with PV and just managed to squeak above PVGIS this year - 380 vs 368kWh (last year was 361kWh, so fairly consistent so far).

YTD is 4200kWh, which is already 150kWh ahead of the PVGIS for the whole year :D

265kWh here for the west faced array, surprised me as its 14kWh better than Sept 2022.

I really should get some permanent monitoring for the mobile arrays so that I can report their contributions.

Definitely getting towards the months where moving stuff around to net extra Watts is a regular pastime though !

Export - 313kWh

Import - 1.47MWh (70% of consumption)
Total consumption 2.1MWh
