Replacement LA Gel batteries - where from

#1

Post by dan_b »

Ok - have decided to replace all the dead lead acid batteries in my old PowerVault G200.

It currently has 6x 90AH "Tubular Gel" batteries in it.
I'm not sure what the differences are between "tubular gel" batteries, "dep cycle", "leisure" and "AGM" are?

Any recommendations for what to replace them with at relatively low cost, and potentially with a bit more storage capacity?
I found some on Amazon, but I'm sure there are better places to buy batteries from - better spec/lower price?

“Deep cycle”, “leisure”, “marine”, “traction”, etc., are terms that are not formally defined. Relabelling cheap “starter” batteries as “leisure” or “marine” is commonplace.

The only way you can really tell is by weight. The heavier a battery is for the same voltage and Ah rating the better the battery will perform when cycled repeatedly.

“Cylindrical” cells are more robust than finned so are better suited to deep discharge.

You also have to consider the space inside the unit. What can you find that will fit? Alternatively, what can you build nearby?

Hmm. Found this website, 6 of these 100AH gel units (34kg each) for £1000 including delivery. That seems quite a lot? Or am I being naive?
