I haven't really read it in detail. It's just one of the many constant news results for laboratory breakthroughs. May not work. May not be viable for years or ever.
But, I just thought it was fun to show how fast the numbers are rising, even if most don't work, or the upper figures are too good to be true for now.
So we have a lab claim of over 700Wh/kg.
Going back to something Elon said a few years ago, he suggested 400Wh/kg was needed for short flights, maybe upto 500 miles, but a 20% improvement, would double that range. So my extrapolations, not claims of any type nor validity, puts range towards 1,000 miles for 480-500Wh/kg. So that might suggest a range increase of 500 miles per 80-100Wh/kg improvement? Giving 700Wh/kg a theoretical potential of 2,000 miles(ish)?
Don't take my waffle seriously, I'm just enjoying, yet again, how reality seems to take my optimism, shout 'Hold My Beer', and outdo it in spectacular fashion.
So 500Wh/kg in use by/before 2030 maybe, and 700Wh/kg approaching practical viability as we near 2030 ..... or better, perhaps?
