Nowty Towers Vs UK Grid Storage
Re: Nowty Towers Vs UK Grid Storage
I hate the half hour gaps as it requires more re-programming of my battery inverter.
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated

I don't start until its a complete run.
I think we spoke about this last year? The 6 hour window is enough for me (not by design intent, more luck and a fortunate confluence of power reductions throughout the life). I'll definitely use excess slots for SH's soon enough though.

When I was on Go Faster (5hrs cheap rate) it was hard work but just about do'able. The IO 6 hrs of cheap rate make it easier but with 2 EVs it still needs some planning.Joeboy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 7:08 pmI don't start until its a complete run.

But now with the A2A HPs, extra cheap rate slots helps them run longer via the grid and takes the strain off the battery inverter and battery stack. And if its really cold, then 7 or 8 hrs is preferable for the storage heaters to get them maxed out.

Re: Nowty Towers Vs UK Grid Storage
My father has been in hospital for a week, generally unwell and a recent fall meant the local GP did not want to see him and told him to call 999 and go to A&E.
Hospital has been very vague, possible aneurysm, then it was pulmonary embolism and his electrolytes are all over the place. Its his 94th birthday early next week so I was going up in the EV this weekend to visit.
But my mum has just told me he's tested positive for COVID and had to be moved to the isolation ward which is a worry as he also has pulmonary fibrosis.
I asked if everyone is wearing masks in the isolation ward. My mum said no one is wearing masks, not the visitors, not the patients and not the staff.
I won't be going now.

That's worrying news Nowty, I hope your dad starts to get better soon.

Depending on your inverter, you may be able to use a Home-Assistant or similar automation to disable battery discharge during the cheap-slot period.Joeboy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 7:08 pmI don't start until its a complete run.

I have my Deye/ Sunsync inverter working automatically with the cheap-slots. It uses the Octopus integration via the "Home Mini" to notify that dispatching (aka cheap-slot) has commenced and then through MQTT changes all of my inverter timer slots , except the 23:30- 05:30 one, to "Discharge above 100% "
When the cheap-slot/ dispatching ends another automation reverts the timer slots back to "discharge above 10% "
The change over of the five timer slots is usually within 5 seconds of the car starting or ending a cheap-slot charge.

Re: Nowty Towers Vs UK Grid Storage
In that case wouldn't it be possible to have a current transformer on the live to the car charger to sense and start charging the home battery (or storage heater) ?

Re: Nowty Towers Vs UK Grid Storage
A CT could probably be used as a trigger in lieu of the Octopus integration to do the same thing, but boost charging or solar charging would complicate things, if used.openspaceman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 3:12 pmIn that case wouldn't it be possible to have a current transformer on the live to the car charger to sense and start charging the home battery (or storage heater) ?
