E7 timings and Radio Teleswitch service

#1

Post by sharpener »

Two weeks ago I set about trying to get details of E7 timings and the Radio Teleswitch service out of Scottish Power.

I still have no information about what will happen when RTS is discontinued - supposedly on 31/3/24 - does anyone know?

The SP call centre was useless so I sent them the following enquiry by email:

To make optimum use of the Economy 7 tariff I have been trying to
establish what the current timings are at this address. I spent 20 mins
on the phone this morning to Luke in Glasgow but was cut off before he
managed to obtain detailed answers from whomever he was asking.

Historically the times have been 2300 - 0000 and 0100 - 0700 GMT/0000 -
0100 and 0200 - 0800 BST, but now appear to have been changed.

So my questions are:

* What are the current timings for this address? Luke told me they are
for the whole SW area 2330 to 0730, but that would be 8 hours so cannot
be correct
. (MPAN is 22 xxxx xxxx xxx, the code "039" on the top line is
apparently a Meter Time Switch Code)

* What will happen when the Radio Teleswitch service is discontinued
after 31 March 2024 if it is not possible (as I have been told) to fit a
Smart Meter at this address for lack of signal, or I choose not to have
one?

I got the following partial answer:

I have checked the details and can see for your property the Economy 7 timing is 23.00 - 24.00 and 01.00 - 07.00 as per our update the Economy 7 timing has not changed and I would like to inform you that is the Economy 7 timing will change will will be notified from our end. Also I would like to inform you that smart meter installation is no linked with the discontinuation of Radio Teleswitch service. I can see the property is ready for smart meter installation and I would request you to kindly get back in touch with us via chat if you want to have the smart meter installed for you so that we can discuss and can book the smart metering appointment for you.

I tried to follow this up by asking if the timings are GMT or BST but their reply simply repeated the previous information and did not help.

In regards to the discontinuation of Radio Teleswitch services as off now there is no concrete confirmation hence will not be able to confirm the next coarse of actions. However I can assure you as soon as there is an update, we would notify our customer's regarding it and the same information would be available on our website.

Now the clocks have gone back I think I have established by observation that

1. Timings at my address are 23.00 - 24.00 and 01.00 - 07.00 Local Time i.e. GMT in winter and BST in summer.
2. The statement from the SP call centre that they are 2330 to 0730 for the whole SW area is incorrect.
3. You don't get an extra hour at the changeover. Today I was back on day rate before 0700 GMT so I think it must have changed at 0600 for one day only.

Anyone shed any further light? According to the OFGEM website SP delegate this to their Metering Service Provider but I do not know who that is or how to contact them directly. They seem to use Lowri Beck to read the meters, is it the same?
