Dilemma - battery location

If you have the space outside I would have a lean to sectional concrete shed on a concrete base. You will have space to walk in and fiddle with the batteries out of the weather. No issues with fire risks which should be pretty minimal anyway. Plenty of expansion space and storage for other bits and bobs. A bolt hole for you when in trouble or just needing space et etc.

I’m planning to move to a concrete sectional shed in place of my plastic lean to in the next couple of years.

Plasterboard should not be load bearing. There should be a frame and appropriate load bearing structure. The batteries are damned heavy, as you said.

I don’t know what made you think I was suggesting the plasterboard would be load-bearing!

2x layers of plasterboard is a really cheap and effective fire-proofing method that will prevent fire from damaging the structure and the batteries stored above.
