That will turn into over 3 MWh on the cheapslot come January, which in turn will convert to about 10 MWh of heat once its gone through the heatpumps.

I'm hearing that folk renewing on the Outgoing Octopus export fixed tariff are now being renewed onto a variable export tariff, currently still fixed at 15p / kWh but for how much longer ? :?

The wording seems to have changed in a few places on the Octopus website too, now "flat rate" instead of "fixed rate".
https://octopus.energy/smart/outgoing/

And in the FAQs, it now says specifically Outgoing is a variable tariff.

There are two ways to sell:

Outgoing Octopus: a variable tariff that allows you to sell your excess solar for a flat unit price of 15p per kWh.

Agile Outgoing Octopus: priced dynamically, with a unit price that changes every half an hour – allowing people generating green energy at home to take advantage of the highly variable wholesale cost of energy throughout the day, and export at the most valuable times.

And someone on the facebook group posted a screen shot of the new tariff,

I'm quite happy to be getting by on 35p costs per day in November. Unheard of in my territory.

Definitely upgrading the Victron solar controller now based on the ethos of generation to the max at our own homes. I can forsee a time in the not too distant future where we shift our export contracts each year in a hopefully thriving market.

We are in the early stages of market development I'm sure there will be ups and downs?

I have just shifted over from FLUX to COSY, in anticipation that running two small A2A Heatpumps during cold snaps might exhaust my battery storage during the day.

Consequently, export is now on OUTGOING. I had not noticed the variable aspect - just that FIXED had disappeared from the tariff title.

This immediately reminded me of the recent YouTube by "Gary Does Solar" : . . . . . . setting my expectations . . . .

Enjoyed that, had not heard of a duck curve or vpp before. Interesting times.

Interesting - on our business solar panel export tariff here at the office, our rates have just been cut from 15p down to 8p due to "a reduction in the wholesale cost of electricity".

I think it's quite clear that the only way for (residential) export rates to be higher than import rated was if the supplier could offset the difference against other costs ie transmission charges. The moment OFGEM started cramming every cost onto the standing charge that hwcame harder to balance.

Personally, I expect Octopus to play silly buggers with OFGEM and offer an export tariff that is an anti duck curve as a "next step" to flux. The marketing is dead simple: most times are peak for export!

I'll be looking for a new hybrid inverter and a battery from Colin if and when this looks like it's coming to pass.
Solar PV: 6.4kW solar PV (Eurener MEPV 400W*16)
PV Inverter: Solis 6kW inverter
Batteries: 14.4kWh LiFePO4 batteries (Pylontech US5000*3)
Battery Inverter: LuxPowertek 3600 ACS*2
EV: Hyundai Kona 65kWh
WBS: 8kW Hunter Avalon 6 Multifuel burner (wood only)

The 15p was never going to last forever. However winter seems to be a strange time to make that change and surely if we're talking "duck curves" then they should drop the price 1000-1600 (or whatever) rather than all the time?

I think the 15p will stay over winter as most export comes from Solar PV and not batteries but its likely to be cut in the spring when our solar wakes back up.

And by then a lot of us will have been renewed over to the new variable flat rate tariff, mine renews later this month. :?

If it reduces to circa 8p earlier, battery folk might be worth moving over to the Agile Outgoing during winter months, then switch back to Outgoing in the spring if they have a large PV array.
