I've used the 3 core for the AC runs and its nice and flexible and a good price, so thought the 35/50mm single core would be suitable for the DC runs too? Its from I think, a reputable supplier, so the cable should be the spec as advertised, decent price and easy to work with? I was thinking why not?

Ok so this is their 50mm welding cable from the same site - https://www.superlecdirect.com/50mm-036 ... black-csp/ More expensive, any reason its better or more suited than the H0RN flexi cable?

I'm not saying the H07RN-F isn't suitable. But welding cable is the correct tool for the job. Differences are small but they do exist: the welding cable will be made from more/smaller strands that'll make it bendier and easier to fit, the welding cable will be rated for way more current (from memory 50mm² H07RN-F is 160A and Welding is 250A (ish)), and welding cable comes already sheathed in the correct colours!

When you're buying 1m the cost differences are what? A fiver?

Not sure I see the advantage of welding cable in this instance: 50mm2 copper is 50mm2 copper - I suspect the higher current rating of the welding cable may assume a welding duty cycle of <100%

As for flexibility: welding cable is intended to be flexed all day every day; unless you're trying to fit your battery cables into particularly tight corners I doubt you would miss the extra flexibility.

And if you're being really anal about the right colours, welding cable tends to be in orange/black as opposed to the regs red/white or conventional red/black for extralowvoltage d.c.

H07RN's great cable and quite often more authentic. Better mechanical resilience, higher heat capacity, much higher voltage rating, as flexible. Hard to find in red.
Arguably welding cable is for welding and hence rated for surge loads not continuous duty..most people use it because it's cheap and flexible.
Marine cable is welding cable with tinned strands for corrosion resistance.
Tri-rated is a pain..not flexible.
Panel flex will do the job too.

Reading this thread and the insights and thoughts with great interest, seems theres so many alternatives and things to understand and consider.
I shall never look at a piece of cable and think its straight forward ever again.

Beginning to be glad i got into plumbing, thats complicated enough at times. :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

Well, 2m of the 50mm welding cable ordered https://www.superlecdirect.com/50mm-036 ... black-csp/, and some 6/8mm lugs from there too, https://www.superlecdirect.com/6945-sup ... -8mm-stud/, 2x 160A fuses from Bimble to replace the 100A ones in the DC disconnector, and another pair of 2m Pylontech 25mm cables, plus a nice cheap hydaulic crimping tool from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146324439483

I'll weight my 1m length and we can compare cables

Next q, best way to connect up the stack of 6 Pylontech batteries with 2 sets of cables?

The best way (as advised by Victron) is,
Image
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 30MWh generated
6 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 520 m3

Brill, so split into 2 lots of 3 batteries effectively, ta.
